Reddit user jetwei has recreated the Pokémon Gold and Silver National Park in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The National Park is remembered among players for it’s relaxing scenery and the bug-catching contests it provides.

In these Gen II contests, trainers were tasked with finding the best bug type pokémon they could in the park. The judging was based on various factors of the pokémon submitted, such as their rarity, level, HP, and IV values. Trainers would be given 20 Sport Balls to attempt to catch the best pokémon possible, and they would only be allowed to use a single pokémon in their party to do so.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Now, players can relive the same nostalgia that they felt two decades ago in an Animal Crossing: New Horizons recreation of the National Park by Redditor jetwei. It features a giant Poké Ball-shaped landscape, a centerpiece fountain, and trees surrounding the area just like in the original game, with modern flair like illustrations of Shuckle and Volcarona in the bottom-right corner added for good measure. The post has received almost 10,000 upvotes at the time of writing, and has garnered lots of positive reception. One comment from CrazyCactuar noted the Great Ball, Ultra Ball, and Master Ball flower beds, saying they were a “nice touch.”

Jetwei has commented saying that they’re considering opening up the island to host their own bug-catching contest, though is unsure that the bug spawn rate will be enough to accommodate the amount of visitors. Still, they do say that they will be posting a video showcase of the park soon, complete with added music. They also noted how time consuming the process was, saying that this was “not something I’m in a hurry to do again.”

The amount of dedication put into this recreation is astounding. Seeing the lengths to which fans will go to recreate fan-favorite locales from other gaming franchises like Pokémon and Zelda is a treat for the eyes, and with the amount of flowers placed all over the park. Other Pokemon creations in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, include a replica Pokemon stadium, towns that resemble Pokemon Gold & Silver as well as Red & Blue, and recreating Pokemon battles using either villagers or bugs and fish found in the game. One fan even made a video imagining the world of Animal Crossing with Pokemon populated into it. This recreation of the National Park in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is yet another testament to the flexibility and creativity that terraforming allows in the game.
