The new Pokemon Homebrings back the wondering trading system under a new name, Wonder Box. This guide will help break down Wonder Box and how it works. Trading has been an essential part of the Pokemon gaming experience. Ever since Pokemon Red and Blue, trading has been a core feature in building relationships between trainers and capturing all the 151 Pokemon. Trainers were unable to catch every species in either Red or Blue so, in order to make the difference up, they would have to trade with a friend for the remaining Pokemon. This was also way back when Pokemon trades were done from a Link Cable. Now, Pokemon trading has gone global and wireless. Pokemon Home introduces the Wonder Box, here’s how it works.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Wonder Trading is a feature introduced in the sixth generation of Pokemon games that allowed users to randomly trade a Pokemon for another to a random trainer. This system has an addictive feature behind it, as players are completely blind for what they can receive. Players’ can send out super-powerful Pokemon like Dragonite into Wonder Trade and just be rewarded with a weak Magikarp. Communities of streamers have been built around Wonder Trading where streamers would breed a specific Pokemon and send them off to Wonder Trade and see what they get back. This feature has made its way into Pokemon Sword and Shield under a new name, Surprise Trade, even though the feature functions exactly the same. Pokemon Home takes it to another level, and here’s how with Wonder Box.

How Wonder Box Works in Pokemon Home

While Pokemon Home is available on the Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android, the Nintendo Switch version of the application do not have the Wonder Box feature. Meaning, in order to use the feature, they must use a mobile device. In the application, head into the trade section on the top left and click Wonder Box. Once inside, players can set up up to 10 Pokemon at once. Once the Pokemon has been set, after a while (the exact amount of time has yet to be documented) the Pokemon the trainer has set up will be replaced by ones they have received. Displayed will be the type of Pokeball these creatures have been captured in. From experience, Wonder Box usually functions every 24 hours. Leaving Pokemon in and checking the next day when free time happens is the best way to go about Wonder Boxing. Pokemon can come from many different regions around the world. Also, the Pokemon inside will maintain their original trainers’ nicknames.

Wonder Box adds a layer of surprise to Pokemon Home. The convenience of having every Pokemon the player has ever owned in one place is a huge benefit of the subscription service. Especially since it’s on a mobile device, managing and trading Pokemon has never been easier. Maybe if the player is lucky, they can find a shiny Pokemon waiting for them. Good luck with the Wonder Box.
