Pokémon Legends: Arceus – 10 Pokémon That Still Need Hisuian Forms

Pokémon fans everywhere are eagerly awaiting the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus on January 28, 2022. With the release date just around the corner, The Pokémon Company continues to slowly release new information regarding the Hisui Region.

At this point in time, fans are aware of new Hisuian Pokémon forms such as Hisuian Voltorb, Zorua, Zoroark, Braviary, and Growlithe. While these teasers are incredibly exciting on their own, it is hard to refrain from imagining what other Hisuian Pokémon forms may be included in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Certain regional evolutions lend themselves to speculation regarding other Hisuian Pokémon, and there are a number of Pokémon that have simply gone without updates for quite a while.

Wooper/Quagsire

Wooper and its evolved form, Quagsire, have been beloved by Pokémon fans since Generation 2. Wooper and Quagsire demonstrate incredibly powerful Water/Ground dual-typing.

While the impressive typing of these Pokémon could be the reason that Wooper and Quagsire have yet to receive any sort of redesign, it could be very exciting for The Pokémon Company to introduce Hisuian forms of these Pokémon. Perhaps the Hisuian Wooper and Quagsire could demonstrate simple Water-typing, implying that these Pokémon acquired their dual-typing later in history.

Rufflet

With the understanding that Braviary demonstrates a regional Hisuian variant, it seems reasonable that Rufflet will also have a Hisuian version.

This could be particularly exciting depending on when players may first encounter Rufflet/Braviary in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. If players are able to encounter a Flying/Psychic Rufflet early on in their game, there is a good chance that this would be an impressive Pokémon for the early parts of their Hisuian journey.

Arcanine

Just as the known existence of the Hisuian Braviary implies the existence of a Hisuian Rufflet, the existence of a Hisuian Growlithe implies the existence of the Hisuian Arcanine. While the typing of the Hisuian Braviary is noticeably different from the typing of the average Braviary, the aesthetic differences between the two are limited.

Hisuian Growlithe, however, looks much different from the average Growlithe. This, combined with the updated Fire/Rock dual-typing of Growlithe’s Hisuian variant, provides plenty of promise regarding the novelty of a potential Hisuian Arcanine.

Aipom/Ambipom

Like Wooper and Quagsire, Aipom and its evolved form, Ambipom, have been known Pokémon since Generation 2. While Aipom’s classic design is very cute, this Normal-type Pokémon could surely benefit from some sort of redesign alongside other Hisuian Pokémon.

Both Aipom and Ambipom feature tails with large hands on the ends. Perhaps the Hisuian form of these Pokémon could demonstrate a Normal/Fighting dual-typing, accentuating these hands as fists. Even if Aipom’s typing remains the same, perhaps the Pokémon could acquire its Normal/Fighting dual-typing after evolving into Ambipom, much like Shroomish evolves into the Grass/Fighting dual-type Pokémon, Breloom.

Skitty

Skitty, the kitten Pokémon, was first introduced to fans in Generation 3 alongside its evolved form, Delcatty. Despite the whimsical pink and purple coloring of these Pokémon, Skitty and Delcatty are both Normal-types.

As of 2022, both Skitty and Delcatty have remained untouched aesthetically for more than a decade. It could be very interesting to see some sort of Psychic or Fairy-type rework of these classic Pokémon. However, both Psychic-typing and Fairy-typing could be seen as too predictable. Perhaps the Hisuian forms of these Pokémon could demonstrate Ice-typing or Steel-typing instead.

Electrode

Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduces players to the first Electric/Grass dual-type Pokémon since the discovery of Mow Rotom: Hisuian Voltorb. Just as the standard Voltorb resembles a standard Pokéball, the Hisuian Voltorb resembles a Hisuian Pokéball.

Of course, Voltorb’s next evolutionary form, Electrode, is widely known amongst the Pokémon community. Therefore, it seems reasonable to assume that the Hisuian Voltorb will evolve into its own Hisuian Electrode.

Doduo

By now, a substantial number of regional variants of Generation 1 Pokémon have been discovered. However, Doduo and Dodrio are classic Generation 1 Pokémon that have yet to receive any sort of rework.

Seeing as the Hisui Region is an ancient version of the Sinnoh Region, most of the Hisuian Pokémon that fans have met demonstrate typings that would make sense in a world before modern technology. Perhaps fans will meet Hisuian forms of Doduo and Dodrio that demonstrate Rock or Ice-typing. Rock-type or Ice-type forms of these Pokémon could be exciting updates while staying true to the history of Hisui.

Shroomish

As fans continue to discover new corners of the world of Pokémon, regional variants of Pokémon from both Generations 1 and 2 have become rather commonplace. Therefore, it seems reasonable that the Pokémon Company will be reworking characters from Generation 3 very soon.

With this in mind, perhaps fans will encounter Hisuian forms of Generation 3 Pokémon like Shroomish in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Currently, Shroomish is known to be a Grass-type Pokémon that evolves into Breloom, a Grass/Fighting dual-type Pokémon. However, Shroomish is often used for its Poison-type moves. Therefore, it would make sense for a Hisuian form of Shroomish to feature Poison-typing.

Teddiursa

Teddiursa is yet another Generation 2 Pokémon that still needs a rework. Despite the moon-shaped markings on Teddiursa and its evolved form, Ursaring, these Pokémon have always demonstrated simple Normal-typing.

While Clefairy, another moon-inspired Pokémon, was eventually updated to be a Fairy-type Pokémon, Teddiursa and Ursaring have remained untouched. Perhaps Pokémon Legends: Arceus could provide the perfect opportunity to introduce fans to a Fairy-type Hisuian form of these precious bear Pokémon.

Wailmer

Another Generation 3 Pokémon that could provide an exciting canvas for a Hisuian form is Wailmer. Both Wailmer and its evolved form,  Wailord, are bulky Water-type Pokémon resembling a beach ball and a submarine, respectively. However, Wailmer may also resemble a balloon, and Wailord could easily resemble a blimp.

With this in mind, The Pokémon Company could potentially entertain fans with whimsical Flying-type Hisuian forms of Wailmer and Wailord. Of course, these Pokémon still deserve a rework even if Flying-type is outside the realm of possibility. Fans would surely be excited by the Ice-type Hisuian forms of these Pokémon, even if Ice-typing is a less exciting jump than Flying-typing.
