Pokémon Legends: Arceus‘ Hisuian forms have been great additions to the series, and the best so far has been Hisuian Sneasel. Although Sneasel was already fairly well-liked, its Hisuian Form improves on its base design by leaps and bounds. Most Hisuian forms have made quite an impression, but Sneasel’s new form is the overall best when compared to the original.

Sneasel debuted in Generation 2, but could only be caught in the endgame, and its Dark/Ice typing was a poor fit for its stats, which were heavily focused towards physical attacks. As a result, while Sneasel had an undeniably cool design, very few players used it in their parties. While not quite the worst Pokémon in its generation, it was still markedly underpowered. Sneasel’s first reprieve came in Gen 4, with the physical/special split allowing it to use its high attack stat, and its evolution Weavile giving it more relevance. Now Sneasel’s Hisuian form gives it new life once more.

Hisuian Sneasel is similar to the original in some ways, but different in others. It still retains the original’s role as a fast, fragile physical attacker with a weasel theme. However, it is now a Poison/Fighting type rather than a Dark/Ice type. This completely shakes up its weaknesses and resistances compared to the original. Hisuian Sneasel will be used in rather different battles than its original form, but its typing gives it access to plenty of useful type advantages, specifically the Poison type that makes it very effective against powerful Fairy type Pokémon. Players looking to find and catch their own Hisuian Sneasel will find a useful multipurpose Pokémon. Plus, Hisuian Sneasel no longer has to worry about Ice type’s bad defensive matchups, although with the tradeoff of being doubly weak to Psychic moves rather than immune to them.

Hisuian Sneasel’s New Typing Makes It A Great Pokémon On Offense

Hisuian Sneasel also has a brand new evolution in Sneasler, a tall, slender, and stylish Pokémon with a wicked-looking set of claws. Sneasler is stronger and faster than Sneasel, but just as fragile, so it relies on hitting first and hitting hard. Sneasler also has a powerful unique move in Dire Claw. Although Dire Claw only has a power of 60, it has a 50% chance of causing poison, paralysis, or drowsiness, with Strong Style bringing that chance up to 80%. Among Pokémon with their own signature move, Sneasler’s Dire Claw is a powerful option. As a Pokémon that is both cool and effective in battle, Sneasler is a welcome newcomer to the franchise.

Although Hisuian Sneasler is amazing, fans of the original Sneasel can still catch one as well. In space-time distortions in the Obsidian Fieldlands, one can find and catch Sneasel in their original form. Of course, original Sneasel can still be evolved into Weavile as well, only they no longer need to be traded to do so. In fact, Weavile and Sneasler both evolve through exposure to a Razor Claw. The difference is that original Sneasel evolve at night, while Hisuian Sneasel evolve during the day. This distinction in Weavile and Sneasler Pokémon’s evolutionary methods is among the details that make Hisuian Sneasel so fascinating.

Sneasel has always been an interesting Pokémon who was gradually treated better over the years, and its Hisuian form may be the best thing to happen to the species yet. With cool designs and solid strength, Hisuian Sneasel and Sneasler are some of the best additions from Pokémon Legends: Arceus. As far as Hisuian forms are concerned, they are the king of the hill.
