A free update for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, entitled Daybreak, will go live later today, February 27, as confirmed during the new Pokémon Presents stream event. February 27 is an important date for any fans’ calendar, as it represents Pokémon Day, during which The Pokémon Company, game developer Game Freak, and Nintendo, typically have new franchise announcements for fans.

It’s been a busy few months for fans of Pokémon – as well as developers – as a number of Pokémon games launched in fairly recent succession. Last year saw the launch of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, which were soon followed by Pokémon Legends: Arceus in January. While the former titles were met with some criticism due to their graphics and bugs, the latter has been widely praised. While many feel Arceus still lacks in the visuals department, the title has been commended for its new approach to gameplay, with Pokémon Legends: Arceus receiving positive reviews.

Confirmed during the Pokémon Presents via The Official Pokémon YouTube channel, Pokémon Legends: Arceus‘ first big free update will go live later today. Daybreak is the game’s 1.1.0 update, which will see players explore the reasons behind mass outbreaks of Pokémon within the Hisui region. According to the official website, Daybreak will give users “a chance to battle powerful opponents—like Legendary Pokemon and wardens—adding yet more options to your Pokemon battle experience.” Fans will team up with Warden Mai of the Diamond Clan and her partner Munchlax, with lots of opportunities to find pocket monsters that might otherwise be tricky to hunt. Players can delve into the new content shortly.

With the game only being a few weeks old, the news of new content for Pokémon Legends: Arceus is perhaps a surprise to many. There are still a number of bugs in Pokémon Legends: Arceus that the team is believed to be working on, so the addition of all-new content so soon in its lifecycle is a welcome surprise. That being said, dataminers have previously revealed unused game files, including a surprise Poké Ball which didn’t make it into the final game, leading many to speculate on future game updates and additions.

The Pokémon Presents event didn’t just deliver news on existing games like Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but also confirmed something fans have been waiting a long time for – the official reveal of Pokémon Generation 9. The games, coming later this year, will be entitled Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and show that Game Freak and Nintendo have no intention of slowing their slew of new Pokémon content. Until more news on the games arrives, players can at least delve into new content in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
