Pokémon Legends: Arceus is having a Hisuian Growlithe distribution event in the US. This will be a GameStop store event, rather than the previous Pokémon Legends: Arceus online Mystery Gift event, like the early-adopter clothing items that are available in the game as of the time of writing.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set in the Hisui region, which is an ancient version of the Sinnoh region from Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. One of the big differences between the Hisui and Sinnoh regions is that there are Hisuian variants of existing Pokémon. One of the first Hisuian Pokémon revealed was Hisuian Growlithe, which has a thick mane that covers its eyes and a horn on its head. The standard form of Growlithe that debuted in Pokémon Red and Blue is a Fire-type Pokémon, while Hisuian Growlithe is Rock/Fire-type Pokémon. In addition, because the Hisuian Pokémon developed in a totally different environment to the ones that fans are used to, Hisuian Growlithe has a different look and type compared to the normal version of Growlithe.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus players in the US will soon be able to claim a free Hisuian Growlithe in one of the game’s first distribution events. According to the Serebii Twitter page, there will be a Hisuian Growlithe distribution event in Gamestop from February 25 to March 13. Players will also receive twenty Feather Balls.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is a sole entry in its generation, which means that unlike the dual Pokémon releases in the past, it’s possible to catch all of the Pokémon in the game without trading. The player cannot catch a Hisuian Growlithe in Pokémon Legends: Arceus until they reach the Cobalt Coastlands, which is the third major area in the game, so it will take some time before they can encounter one through conventional means. This distribution event will be helpful to people who are in the early stages of the game and want a Hisuian Growlithe on their team.

There is currently no word regarding an international version of this distribution event. It’s possible that this could remain a retailer exclusive in the US and it won’t receive a worldwide equivalent. At least it’s possible to catch Hisuian Growlithe with relative ease in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, so players aren’t missing out if they can’t attend this distribution event. There have been GameStop events involving Shiny Zacian and Zamazenta in the past, which normally cannot be acquired in their games, due to their base versions being Shiny-locked in Pokémon Sword and Shield.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is available now for Nintendo Switch. The Hisuian Growlithe distribution will take place in participating Gamestop stores from February 25 to March 13, 2022.
