There are rumors going about that Pokémon Legends: Arceus will feature a Hisuian Mewtwo, but some skeptics question the validity of said rumors. There continues to be speculation on which Pokémon will get the regional form treatment in anticipation of the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Much like previous Pokémon games, Pokémon Legends: Arceus will feature alternate versions of returning Pokémon in the form of Hisuian Pokémon. At the time of writing, so far Hisuian Growlithe and Braviary have been revealed, with Growlithe being a Fire/Rock-type and Braviary a Flying/Psychic-type. Pokémon Legends: Arceus will also feature new evolutions of some Pokémon such as Basculegion, the evolution of Basculin. New regional Pokémon forms have been in the mainline games since Pokémon Sun and Moon introduced Alolan forms, and that trend is still continuing to Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

The rumor of a Hisuian Mewtwo first originated from well-known Pokémon leaker CentroLeaks, who tweeted an assortment of info that they claim is unverified and should be taken with a grain of salt. This includes claims of new legendaries, DLC featuring Primal Giratina, and Hisuian Mewtwo. However, Reddit user gumtoe34 has posted a counterargument to this rumor, claiming that Hisuian Mewtwo wouldn’t make sense due to Mewtwo being a man-made Pokémon who was created by cloning Mew presumably in the future.

But as gumtoe34 points out, there are ways to create another Mewtwo if Hisuian Mewtwo was real. There’s potential for a scenario in which scientists were able to clone Mew in the distant past and make a Mewtwo that’s just as strong if not stronger than the one in the future. Or alternatively, there could be time travel involved that would allow scientists to create a Mewtwo. Though Dialga isn’t shown to be directly featured in Pokémon Legends: Arceus yet, it’s not out of the question for it to cause time travel shenanigans for the player’s adventure through the Hisui region. Celebi would also be an alternate option to allow the player to travel to the future.

But there can only be speculation without any solid evidence that another Mewtwo would be created outside of Pokémon Red and Blue. Even CentroLeaks attests that the info in question should be taken with a grain of salt, as should all leaks and rumors. If a new Mewtwo form were to be introduced, it wouldn’t be the first Pokémon game that would do so, as prior to the release of Pokémon X and Y, Mega Mewtwo Y was teased under the guise of a new Mewtwo form. The possibilities that another new Mewtwo form could go to in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is limitless.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus releases for Nintendo Switch on January 28, 2022.
