Alpha Pokémon are among the strongest wild pocket monsters found in Pokémon Legends: Arceus and they’re monstrously stronger, larger, and higher-leveled than any other Pokémon in their area. Unlike previous generations of Pokémon that contained identical character sizes for every Pokémon when they were different sizes, Pokémon Legends: Arceus actually has massively oversized representations of Alpha Pokémon when compared to other members of their species. Additionally, Alpha Pokémon typically have a unique move, making them worth the trouble of tracking down, battling, and capturing.

In most cases, when players encounter an Alpha Pokémon they’ll likely be under-leveled and ill-equipped as they battle them. Many players will find that capturing Alpha Pokémon is a quick way to increase experience and their Star Rank level in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but the battles can easily go sideways if they aren’t well planned for. With tactical decision-making, players will be able to find and capture more Alpha Pokémon easily in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Alpha Pokémon can really be found everywhere in Pokémon Legends: Arceus and new Alphas will sometimes spawn in after the former one was either defeated or captured. Of course, players will have to leave the map region and head back to Jubilife Village in order to get the Alpha pocket monsters to respawn sooner. Furthermore, if players battle and lose against Alpha Pokémon, they’ll have to quickly get away and out of sight in order to heal their entirely fainted team. Unlike rare Pokémon spawns in Legends: Arceus, such as Togepi, Alpha Pokémon will not run away from the area after a fight has finished if they’re still standing.

Tips For Alpha Pokémon Hunting In Legends: Arceus

When searching for more Alpha Pokémon in Arceus, players should look at areas that are often far off from the main path. Many Alpha Pokémon can be found in isolated areas that trainers and people wouldn’t normally cross, and for certain they’re almost always surrounded by or near other members of their evolution line. Occasionally, Alpha Pokémon can even be “basic” forms like Eevee or Bidoof, so be sure to keep an eye out for the beating red eyes that indicate the Pokémon is an Alpha.

Unless a player’s Pokémon are at the appropriate level, always approach an Alpha Pokémon with caution. Using a similar strategy that works for catching timid Pokémon in Legends: Arceus, like Eevee, players should first throw a berry or Dazzling Honey to distract the Alpha Pokémon and catch it unaware. This will allow players to attack first, giving them an opportunity to apply a status effect like paralysis or the new “drowsy” mechanic that works similarly to sleep. Chip away at the Alpha’s health, and throw Great Balls or Ultra Balls when its HP is in red to hopefully catch the gigantic pocket monster in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
