Alpha Torterra is one of the many powerful Pokémon players can find and catch in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but the circumstances of its location make it harder to reach. Unfortunately, Alpha Torterra also has scary powerful moves at its disposal. With its dual Grass- and Ground-typing Alpha Torterra can be difficult to counter without lowering its health completely with the likes of an Ice-type move. Of the three Alpha versions of the Sinnoh starter evolutions, Alpha Torterra may prove to be the most difficult one to capture.

Before players even attempt to capture Alpha Torterra, it’s a good idea to reach Star Rank level six in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. This unlocks the ability to craft Ultra Balls, which are the most essential item when trying to capture Alpha Torterra because the Pokémon is found at level 65. Additionally, Alpha Torterra has extremely powerful Ground-type moves at its disposal, something players should be cautious of if they attempt to use a Fire- or Poison-type against it in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Like all other Alpha Pokémon in Legends Arceus, Alpha Torterra will have three staple moves and one unique move in its arsenal. The staple moves of Alpha Torterra are Headlong Rush, Wood Hammer, and Double-Edge, while the unique move can be another powerful move like Earth Power. Conversely to most Alpha Pokémon in Legends: Arceus, Alpha Torterra has three moves that inflict recoil damage upon itself when used, further increasing the challenge to lower its HP and capture it. Alpha Torterra’s monstrous Attack stat means it will inflict more damage on its opponents, thereby increasing the amount of recoil damage it deals to itself.

Alpha Torterra’s Location In Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Alpha Torterra can only be found in the Holm of Trials location, part of the Crimson Mirelands map. So, from the starting camp, head south and cross the river in order to reach the Holm of Trials, which also happens to be the home of Alpha Toxicroak, Alpha Sliggoo, and Alpha Carnivine. The easiest way to reach the Holm of Trials is by taking a ride Pokémon in Legends: Arceus like Braviary or Basculegion, as the Holm of Trials, is separated from the main area of Crimson Mirelands by water. Alternatively, if players can make it to the top of a hill in Gapejaw Bog, they can use Wyrdeer to run and leap across the river. The Wyrdeer method will allow players to reach Alpha Torterra much earlier in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but they’ll quickly find their Pokémon to be severely under-leveled.

If Alpha Torterra proves to be too much of a challenge for players to catch, or if they wish to have a Torterra on their team much earlier, players can find a Turtwig in the Crimson Mirelands as well. Unlike Piplup and Chimchar’s locations that are close to the Alpha Empoleon and Alpha Infernape, respectively, players can find a Turtwig on its own. To find and catch Turtwig in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, head around Laker Valor and continue to the southernmost part of Droning Meadow, though it’ll be much weaker than the might Alpha Torterra.
