Massive Mass Outbreaks are a new feature in Pokémon Legends: Arceus that changes how Mass Outbreaks can be tackled. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Pokémon series, the developers behind Pokémon Legends: Arceus added a free update with new missions. Although, this update has drastically changed how players can hunt for Shiny Pokémon. Instead of a single outbreak happening on the map, several will occur at once with Massive Mass Outbreaks. It’s also a great way to get some of the game’s rarer Pokémon.

First, players will need to update their game to the latest version and have completed the game’s main story. After booting up the game, there will be a series of new missions focused on Munchlax and Mai. She will teach players all about how Massive Mass Outbreaks work, including how to get them to appear. She can be found near the gate of Jubilife Village. Each quest will tackle one of the main landmasses in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

After clearing this questline, the Massive Mass Outbreaks will begin to appear in the overworld. When speaking to the gatekeeper at Jubilife Village, he will display a new “?” on the map. This means that a Massive Mass Outbreak is happening in this location. If it does not spawn on the map, visit one of the locations without a Mass Outbreak happening. Then, return to Jubilife Village and see if Massive Mass Outbreaks have appeared. If not, continue this process until it does.

How To Use Massive Outbreaks in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

If Pokémon Legends: Arceus players give Mai’s Munchlax five Aguav Berries, it will uncover all the “?” logos on the map, revealing which Pokémon are spawning in Mass Outbreaks. There will be three different types of Massive Mass Outbreaks.

  • Normal Massive Mass Outbreaks: Pokémon will appear and potentially have other Pokémon from its evolutionary line. (Example: Pikachu Mass Outbreaks might spawn Raichu.
  • Sparkle Massive Mass Outbreaks: These are labeled with a yellow sparkle. This means trainers will likely encounter Alpha versions or more powerful versions of the Pokémon in a second wave. (Example: Pikachu Mass Outbreaks might spawn Alpha Raichu)
  • Berry Massive Mass Outbreaks: These are labeled with an orange berry logo. After trainers complete this Mass Outbreak, they’ll be rewarded with an Aguav Berry.

Pokémon like Spirtomb, Unown, and the starter Pokémon can appear in Pokémon Legends Arceus’ Massive Mass Outbreaks. Those struggling to complete the Pokédex will want to use this feature as often as possible. Unfortunately, Massive Mass Outbreaks conclude when rainfall has stopped in the area. To get them to spawn again, just return back to Jubilife Village and recheck the map. It will be interesting to see if other free content will be coming to Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
