There is a lot of lore to unpack in Pokémon Legends: Arceus and much of it is hidden behind Pokédex entries that aren’t revealed until after a trainer has completed enough Research Tasks to get to Level 10. Interestingly enough, one Pokédex entry seems to hint at what kind of new region is awaiting players in Gen 9 of Pokémon – the unannounced (but expected) next entry in the mainline series. However, in order to find this secret in Legends: Arceus, players will also require some knowledge of Sword and Shield, too.

Players are tasked with completing the first Pokédex in Legends: Arceus, which has entries written out by Professor Laventon. However, in order to see these entries, players must first complete at least 10 Research Tasks for a specific Pokémon. Once this is done, they’ll be able to read a short snippet of information on that Pokémon from Laventon’s perspective.

The information shared by Laventon can sometimes shed light on the Pokémon professor’s past, as he will drop small hints about his likes and dislikes – and even what region he is from. Based on his appearance, many fans have speculated Laventon is from Sword and Shield‘s Galar region, but this may not be the case. In fact, it’s entirely possible Laventon is from a region not yet seen by fans – and one that could be the setting for Pokémon’s Gen 9.

Legends: Arceus & Laventon Hint At A New Gen 9 Pokémon Region

The hint for Pokémon Gen 9’s new region comes via the Pokédex entry for Raichu in Legends: Arceus. After attaining Research Level 10, Laventon will write the entry: “It can discharge bursts of electricity exceeding 100, 000 volts – a single strike with that amount of power would incapacitate one of the Copperajah of my homeland.” This doubles as a slight Easter egg for older Pokémon fans, but it also potentially proves Laventon is from the Galar region seen in Sword and Shield.

However, this may not be the case. In Pokémon Sword, Copperajah’s Pokédex entry reads, “They came over from another region long ago and worked together with humans. Their green skin is resistant to water.” This proves they’re not native to the Galar region, and “long ago” could certainly refer to the time period of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, when ancient Sinnoh was called the Hisui region. If Laventon is indeed from this mysterious region, then it could hint at a new land inspired by India (something that’s been rumored and speculated on in the past).

Of course, there’s no way to know for sure if this connects Legends: Arceus directly to Gen 9. However, for now, it certainly seems possible. This would fit the Pokédex entries seen in Arceus and Pokémon Sword, and the time period would certainly line up. Much in the way Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl hid hints about Legends: Arceus, it’s entirely possible Pokémon Legends: Arceus has now provided hints at what players can expect in Gen 9.
