Pokémon Legends: Arceus reveals how the Sinnoh Region’s Floaroma Town – mostly recently seen in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl before – came into existence. From the Pokémon Diamond and Pearl games and the Nintendo Switch remakes, Floaroma Town is a small community distinguished by the bountiful flowers that grow everywhere in its grasses. But Legends: Arceus shows that the quaint, little village may have not always been then this way – that is, until, a special Pokémon changed Floaroma Town forever.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes place in Hisui, a region from an ancient time in the Pokémon world that would later become Sinnoh. Many of the locations from the Gen 4 games thus make an appearance in Legends: Arceus, most notably Jubilife City. Floaroma Town cannot be found, however. Traces of it linger here and there – especially in the Floaro Gardens of the Obsidian Fieldlands – but the flower-filled paradise it becomes in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl does not seem to exist yet in Hisui.

Trainers who have save data from Pokémon Sword and Shield on their Nintendo Switch can help change that, though. After reaching the Pokémon Legends: Arceus credits with the save data from Gen 8, trainers can start the 92nd entry in Pokémon Legends: Arceus‘s request list: “A Token of Gratitude.” Reaching the end of this request reveals that the mythical Pokémon Shaymin is not only responsible for the creation of Floaroma Town.

How Shaymin Created Floaroma Town In Pokémon Legends: Arceus

In the request “A Token of Gratitude”, trainers are tasked with helping Medi find Garcidea flowers in the Obsidian Fieldlands after she gifts one as a clue. This leads trainers to the Floaro Gardens, where all the Garcidea flowers have unfortunately died. However, upon entering the patch of dead flowers, Medi will shout “Thank You!” This triggers an event in which Shaymin will appear, walk into the flowers, and bring them back to life with their powers. This opens the opportunity for players to catch Shaymin in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, but more importantly, the Garcidea flowers it resurrects are what later fill the fields of Floaroma Town.

This is further confirmed by dialogue in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. A resident of the community shares, “Floaroma Town was a barren, desolate hill long ago, avoided even by Pokémon. People started planting flowers on it because it was such a sad place. But nothing would grow… People didn’t know what to do… And then one day, someone expressed thanks for the blessings of nature. Then the whole hill burst into bloom. Isn’t that strange and wonderful?” The request title “A Token of Gratitude” shows that the trainer in Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Medi are the very people who gave thanks to the blessings of nature. Shaymin, being the Gratitude Pokémon, receives their token of thanks and springs the desolate hill into bloom. Such a close parallel between the dialogue of Gen 4 and this new game shows the attention to detail put into Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
