Earlier today, Pokémon may have teased the existence of a Let’s Go Diamond & Pearl remake and the reaction is mixed at best. Remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl have been both long-rumored and long-desired among the fanbase. With Pokémon Day coming up in just a few days, the belief among Pokémon fans was that, if such remakes DID exist, they would be revealed on the franchise’s 25th anniversary.

As Pokémon Day 2021 inches closer and closer, rumors/leaks about a Pokémon Diamond/Pearl remake have intensified more and more. Last month, it was leaked that any Pokémon Diamond and Pearl remakes would be more like the Pokémon: Let’s Go! games and a recent tweet from the official Pokémon Twitter account has hinted at such a possibility. For the unaware, reception to generation 7’s Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! among fans was more mixed than critic reviews (to put it nicely).

With that said, the initial reaction to the aforementioned Pokémon tweet is just as mixed. The brief tweet reads, “Let’s go, Sinnoh! Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup are preparing for #PokemonDay—it’s only 4 days away!” It is the very beginning of the tweet, “Let’s go, Sinnoh!” that has some fans concerned, as it reads like an unofficial confirmation of last month’s leak. While the most liked replies to the tweet voice support and excitement about a Pokémon Let’s Go style remake, some others do not share the same sentiment.

While the reception appears to be split (there were several other tweets that are not suitable for publication), some fans are having fun acknowledging the Pokémon Company’s (perhaps intentional) devious choice of words. After the addition of Pokémon Platinum, generation 4 had a fair amount of content that improved on two already beloved games. For fans of the original generation 4 games, seeing leaks of all the content cut out of Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! is more than enough to give them pause.

The Pokémon Company is no stranger to releasing new Pokémon games to commemorate its anniversary, with Pokémon Sun/Moon being announced on Pokémon Day 2016 to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary. All this is to say, a Pokémon Diamond/Pearl remake being announced later this week is heavily expected, so while some fans are excited to see them all but confirmed, others are hung up on the possibility of them being more casual, Let’s Go style games. Pokémon Day 2021 is on February 27th, so by the end of this week, players will know for sure if their hopes were dashed or fulfilled.
