As more details about the upcoming Pokemon Sword and Shield make their way online, the latest rumors suggest Generation VIII could introduce Armored Pokemon. While relatively little is known about the two new games, there’s a possibility that The Pokemon Company could introduce a new type of evolution.

Set in the fictional Galar Region and looking like it has taken some serious influence from an industrial Great Britain, gamers have only had a glimpse at the first three starter Pokemon so far. As well as a selection of Pokemon from the previous seven generations making an appearance, there’s sure to be plenty of new Pocket Monsters to catch.

Although it should be taken with a pinch of salt, a 4chan post (via Dexerto) highlights the idea of Armored Evolutions. The anonymous post claims that Armored Evolutions will be part of Sword and Shield, naming Armored Charizard, Armored Mewtwo, Armored Flygon, and Armored Zeraora as the first four Pokemon to get the upgrade.

Given that the thread was posted on February 21 and correctly spoiled the names of the games and overall setting of Sword and Shield, it definitely adds some support to the post. Elsewhere, the 4chan leak claims the two Legendary Pokemon will be a metal snake and a wooden horse. The idea of an armor-clad snake definitely fits with the whole theme of Armored Pokemon.

Meltan is also rumored to play a part in Armored Evolutions. With the newcomer being introduced in Pokemon Let’s Go, The Pokemon Company could tie together the two worlds through Meltan. Considering Mythical Pokemon don’t usually have large roles in the games, it would also be a change of pace to have Meltan play a part.

It’s also important to note that the industrial feel and backdrop of Sword and Shield could also lend itself to the idea of Armored Pokemon. Apart from the initial news, there’s nothing else to reveal about how Armored Evolutions could work in Pokemon Sword and Shield. With Pokemon X & Y‘s Mega Evolutions remaining divisive among players, The Pokemon Company could replace them with Armored Evolutions.

Remembering how cool Mewtwo looked with its armor in the Kanto Region, the possibilities are endless when it comes to fan-favorites suiting up for the next generation. With Pokemon Sword and Shield coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch later this year, players will have to wait a little longer to find out what’s going on in the Galar Region.
