Pokémon Sword and Shield will feature an event around Pokémon Day that involves beating one million Gigantamax Pikachu. If the players can complete this herculean task, then they will all receive two hundred pieces of useful ore.

The Galar region introduced the Dynamax mechanic to the series, which allowed Pokémon to transform into colossal forms for three turns. There are certain Pokémon with unique Dynamax forms, which are referred to as Gigantamax Pokémon. Pikachu received a Gigantamax form in Pokémon Sword & Shield, which transformed it into a chunky being that was reminiscent of its Pokémon Red and Blue design. Pikachu was originally a lot larger, and its design was slimmed down over time.

It’s possible to claim a Gigantamax Pikachu for free in Pokémon Sword & Shield by possessing a save file from Pokémon: Let’s Go! Pikachu, but the Wild Area is about to be flooded with these massive ‘mons. According to a post on the official Serebii Twitter account, a Gigantamax Pikachu event will be held from February 26 to 28. Gigantamax Pikachu will appear in Max Raid battles across the Wild Area. If the players manage to defeat one million Pikachu, then every player will receive 100 Armorite Ore and 100 Dynite Ore between March 2 to 15.

In Pokémon Sword & Shield, Armorite Ore has a number of uses. It can be traded in the Master Dojo to teach Pokémon new moves, it can be given to the Digging Pa on the Isle of Armor for Watts, and it can be given to an NPC near the Workout Sea to reset a Pokémon’s EVs. Dynite Ore can be traded for Carrot Seeds in Freezington and used to purchase rare items in the Max Lair. These kinds of ore can be hard to find, so a hundred of each type will be incredibly useful.

Three days to defeat one million Pokémon seems like a short amount of time, but Pokémon players have proven their worth in the past. Pokémon Sword and Shield players managed to defeat one million Cramorant within the space of a few days earlier this month. The Gigantamax Pikachu will likely pose more of a threat than the Cramorant, unless players bring in lots of high-level Ground-type Pokémon to counter its moves. The people who really want a massive stack of Armorite and Dynite Ore should help out and tackle a bunch of these massive Pikachu.

The Gigantamax Pikachu event in Pokémon Sword and Shield will run from February 26-28. If successful, then the 100 pieces of Armorite Ore and Dynite Ore will be distributed between March 2 and March 15.
