A new special Pokémon is available to be downloaded in Pokémon Sword & Shield, as the Alola Cap Pikachu can now be claimed as a Mystery Gift. The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword & Shield is available now and Game Freak is giving away special Pikachu to promote its release.

There are eight cap-wearing Pikachu available as part of the promotion and they can be claimed until November 30. These Pikachu are wearing the caps that Ash wore in the various seasons of the Pokémon anime. Most fans will be familiar with the cap Ash had during the first season of the Pokémon anime, but he dropped it after the Johto region and started trying out new looks for each regional changeup.

The latest hat-wearing Pikachu is available to download now. According to a post on Serebii’s Twitter page, the Alola Cap Pikachu is live. In order to claim the Alola Cap Pikachu, load up a save in Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield and go to the Mystery Gift menu. Select “Get a Mystery Gift”, then “Get with Code/Password”. The system will then need to connect to the Internet. Once it reaches the menu, type ULTRAP1KA into the command prompt to receive the gift. The Alola Cap Pikachu will then appear in players’ parties or in their Box.

The Alola arc of the Pokémon anime was very interesting, as it shook up the formula of the series. What started out with Ash going back to school, ended with him finally winning the Pokémon League after two decades of trying. The new Pokémon anime follows Ash on a globe-trotting journey, as he battles the best trainers in the world, in what feels like his final run as the series’ protagonist.

There is only one hat-wearing Pikachu left to claim, as the code for the World Cap Pikachu will be announced on October 30. Once that has been announced, players will have a month to claim them all. The only way to get one after that deadline is by trading with another trainer. The fact that these Pikachu are free downloads means that they should be easy enough to find in trades, as is the case with the Gigantamax Meowth that was given to early adopters of the games.

The Crown Tundra DLC for Pokémon Sword & Shield is available now. The Alola Cap Pikachu can be claimed until November 30, 2020.
