In the newest installments of the Pokemon franchise, Pokemon Sword & Shield, making a Pokemon competitive ready has been made easier than ever before. In games prior, players would have to hatch countless amounts of eggs until they got one that had the correct stats, ability, and nature for the desired Pokemon. With the addition of Hyper Training in Pokemon Sword & Shield, Game Freak has made it possible for trainers to make any Pokemon competitive viable in a fraction of the time!

Hyper Training is a process in which trainers can improve the Individual Values of a Pokemon (also known as IVs). Individual Values are stats that each Pokemon is born with that never change, meaning that up until now trainers had to breed for perfect IVs. Now trainers can easily max out the IVs of a Pokemon for use in battle, despite whether or not they have been used in battle before or not. This guide will teach players how to Hyper Train their favorite Pokemon partners in Pokemon Sword & Shield.

How To Hyper Train In Pokemon Sword & Shield

Before trainers can begin Hyper Training their Pokemon, they will need to have completed the game’s story and gained access to the Battle Tower in the town of Wyndon. The Pokemon that the trainer wishes to Hyper Train must also be at level 100 before it can be Hyper Trained. Players can quickly raise the level of their Pokemon by completing Max Raid Battles that reward players Exp. Candy of size medium or larger.

Once players have made their way to the Battle Tower, they will need to make sure they have the appropriate amount of Bottle Caps to pay for the Hyper Training they desire. A basic Bottle Cap will allow the player to train a single stat of a Pokemon, while a Gold Bottle Cap will allow the player to train all stats of a Pokemon. Bottle Caps can be obtained as rewards from competing in the Battle Tower or purchased using BP.

To Hyper Train a Pokemon, simply speak to the NPC behind the counter on the far right of the Battle Tower. The player will then be able to select the Pokemon they would like to Hyper train and the stats they would like boosted. The Hyper Training will not actually change the Pokemon’s IVs, but it will be treated as maxed out in battle. This allows Pokemon that already have the desired Hidden Power variation to obtain optimal stat distributions.
