A new Wild Area update for Pokémon Sword and Shield is focusing on fossil Pokémon in Max Raid battles, with higher chances of encountering a Shiny Tyrantrum. While many Pokémon fans are currently busy Shiny hunting in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Raid events in Pokémon Sword and Shield have continued, allowing fans of Galar to keep enjoying gameplay. The fossil Pokémon appearing during the March Wild Area event could be a great opportunity to catch a powerful dinosaur-themed Pokémon.

The Wild Area news for Pokémon Sword and Shield has been mixed in past months, with many raid spotlights focusing on Pokémon that have already been featured, or that aren’t very hard to come by. During the Pokémon Day 2022 Wild Area event, many were disappointed by the announcement of Kanto starters again appearing with higher frequency around the Galar region’s Raid Dens. Because there are so many wonderful Pokémon in Sword and Shield, the decision to feature other species like fossil types is both refreshing and exciting, and may hint at further uniquely themed Wild Area events in the months to come.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

According to the Pokémon website, the fossil-themed Max Raids will be active until 4:59 PM PDT on March 27, 2022. Carracosta, Archeops, Tyrantrum, and Aurorus will all appear more frequently in the Raid Dens scattered through the primary Wild Area and DLC maps for The Crown Tundra and The Isle of Armor. It has also been confirmed that Tyrantrum will have boosted Shiny odds, giving players a better chance of finding one while participating in the event.

Like with all Wild Area events, players will want to ensure they update the Wild Area news before scouting dens. This can be done by opening the “X” menu and entering the “Mystery Gift” tab and then selecting the “Get The Wild Area News” option. Those who do not update the news may notice that the featured Pokémon for the Sword and Shield Wild Area event aren’t populating. They may also experience issues seeing Max Raids shared online by other players, making it hard to join in on the Raids. Updating the Wild Area news doesn’t require Switch consoles to be on the current date and time, and it is still possible to toggle the days during an event to reset the spawns in Raid Dens.

While many Pokémon fans are still enjoying the adventures and mechanics found in Sword and Shield, it is possible updates to the Wild Area could come to an end in the coming year. The recent announcement of Gen 9’s Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which is slotted for release in late 2022, likely means no further DLC or big content updates will continue for the Galar region. While the promise of a new Pokémon adventure is exciting for fans, those who have enjoyed their time in Pokémon Sword and Shield will likely be sad to see the Generation 8 chapter come to a close, making each new event in coming months particularly special and worth participating in.
