Politoed returns to Pokemon through the Pokemon Sword & Shield Isle of Armor DLC. Here’s how players can capture their own in the game. Politoed, Poliwag, Poliwhirl, and Poliwrath were all cut from the Galar Pokedex alongside hundreds of other Pokemon. Pokemon Sword & Shield released with only 400 out of the almost 900 Pokemon now available in the series. Several favorites were cut like Slowbro, Magnemite, and Tentacruel. Although, with the inclusion of the Pokemon Sword & Shield expansion pass, over 200 of these Pokemon are making their first-time debut in the Galar region. The first 100 being a part of the Isle of Armor while the next 100 will be a part of the Crown Tundra, the second half of the expansion pass releasing later this Fall. Here’s how players can capture a Politoed in the Isle of Armor.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

The Poliwag line of Pokemon began back on Pokemon Red and Blue as one of the better Water-type families in the game. Although, a new evolution for Poliwhirl was introduced in Pokemon Gold and Silver, as the game introduced plenty of new evolutionary lines for older Pokemon like Eevee and Magmar. Politoed is not only cute and goofy-looking, but it is also an incredibly powerful Water-type. If the Politoed has its hidden ability, Drizzle, it makes it one of the better Pokemon for competitive play. With Drizzle, the moment Politoed is sent out into battle, the field will begin to see rain. All water-type moves are increased in power while in the rain. Here’s how players can get their own Politoed in Pokemon Sword & Shield.

How To Get Politoed in Pokemon Sword & Shield

For players to obtain a Politoed, they must first find a Poliwag. Poliwag only appears naturally in the Isle of Armor DLC. Head over to the Brawler’s Cave on the Isle of Armor to encounter it walking around in the overworld. Battle it and capture it. To evolve it into Poliwhirl, the player will need to raise it to level 25. Once at level 25, all the player has to do is trade Poliwhirl to a trusted friend while it is holding a King’s Rock. The King’s Rock will make Poliwhirl into Politoed. Trade back for it and the Politoed is yours.

This marks the first time in series history where a mainline title was given a DLC. The Pokemon Sword & Shield marked a departure from the old, brittle formula where Game Freak would release a “definitive” version of each region a few years after the base game. Players would then have to shell out even more money to get very minor new content. This new method is much more preferred, as it not only saves the player money but also allows players to use their old Pokemon Sword & Shield teams for another adventure. Hopefully, this remains as the main method of releasing new content for older titles for the future.

Pokemon Sword & Shield is available now on Nintendo Switch.
