Volcarona makes a reappearance on the Isle of Armor of Pokemon Sword & Shield. Here’s where players can find this Pokemon. In the base game of Pokemon Sword & Shield, only 400 out of 800+ Pokemon were available to capture in the game. This was to make sure the game was able to meet its holiday deadline. The Pokemon franchise is much larger than its gaming series, as the animated series, card game, and merchandise all count on each other to push out sales for content. Volcarona is one of the Pokemon cut from the base game but has returned through the Isle of Armor DLC. Here’s where players can find Volcarona.

The Isle of Armor is the first out of two parts of the Pokemon Sword & Shield expansion pass. On the Isle of Armor, players can explore a new wild area full of Pokemon that are unavailable in the base game. Over 100 older Pokemon make their way through the DLC including fan favorites like Psyduck and Emolga. The game also features an entirely new storyline, as the trainer teams up with Kubfu, a new legendary Pokemon, and work together to take on the island challenge. Here’s how players can get Volcarona on the Isle of Armor.

How To Get Volcarona in Pokemon Sword & Shield

Players can find Volcarona only on the Isle of Armor. Here, players can head over to either Loop Lagoon or Forest of Focus. On Loop Lagoon, players can find Larvesta, the pre-evolution of Volcarona. It can spawn standing near a large rock formation. It doesn’t move around much, making it easier to catch. It will be level 60, so leveling it up once more will get it to evolve into Volcarona. It also has a higher chance of appearing if the weather heat is intense. Volcarona is also an incredibly powerful Pokemon for any trainers collection.

The second part of the DLC is scheduled to release this Fall, the Crown Tundra. This includes an additional 100 Pokemon to encounter, a new wild area for players to explore, and legendary Pokemon like the Galarian versions of the Kanto birds as well as new Regis. This part of the DLC will likely focus more on the story as the Isle of Armor focuses on introducing new mechanics to help trainers ease into competitive battling. An entirely new wild area to explore is the reason alone to invest in the DLC. This is also a great excuse to jump back into the Galar region for another adventure.

Pokemon Sword & Shield is available now on the Nintendo Switch.
