Pokémon fan recently showcased a Pokémon-themed Volkswagen Leaf tricked out with Bulbasaurs. The beloved franchise has inspired fan art over the years, like a recent Halloween-themed stained glass rendition of Togepi in a pumpkin.

When starting a Pokémon video game, players are given the option to choose one of three starter Pokémon to join them on their journey as a Pokémon trainer. These three starter Pokémon are a Grass-type, a Fire-type and a Water-type – and while this is the case for all generations of the game, Pokémon Generation One starters are strongly associated with the franchise due to their landmark status. Bulbasaur, the Generation One Grass-type starter, was the very first Pokémon in the entire series.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Pokémon fan by the Reddit username of ZeraX7 recently posted a photo of a Volkswagen Leaf plastered with images of Bulbasaur. The car is painted a light, blueish green – the same color as Bulbasaur’s skin – and has green leaves around its bottom edge. On the front hood and side doors of the vehicle are two smiling Bulbasaurs. With the photo, ZeraX7 made clear their opinion of the best Pokémon starter by posting the caption, “Finally, an official car for the best starter.” Though this photo shows just a Volkswagen Leaf decorated with the starter Pokémon Bulbasaur, ZeraX7 also mentions that there were two other cars plastered with Pokémon’s Pikachu and Eevee.

The origin and image of the car is uncertain, but it does look like it was painted for an official event or collaboration. It could be a partnership between Gamefreak and Volkswagen China, as suggested in one of the comments of the post. Regardless, the ingenuity of using Bulbasaur, a Grass type starter Pokémon, on a Volkswagen Leaf is marketing gold. The apt combination between car and Pokémon is further realized when considering that Bulbasaur also appeared in the 2004 video game Pokémon LeafGreen, and is frequently associated with the move “Razor Leaf,” thanks in part due to the Pokémon animated television series.

Most Pokémon fans will not have access to a Bulbasaur-themed Volkswagen Leaf, but there are other ways of celebrating the popular starter. Some have resorted to recreating the Grass-type Pokémon through crafts and other means. That being said, there is probably no better way of advertising one’s love for Bulbasaur than driving around a Volkswagen Leaf with its face plastered all over the exterior.
