The million-dollar bike used by Red in Pokémon Red & Blue has been created by The Pokémon Company as part of a giveaway, to celebrate one million Twitter followers. Red moved at an extremely slow pace in Pokémon Red & Blue, as he could only walk, and the Running Shoes didn’t exist until Pokémon Ruby & Sapphire.

The quickest way to move around the Kanto region was with the aid of the bike, which was sold in the Mirage Cycle store in Cerulean City. The only problem was that the bike cost one million Poké Dollars, which was one more dollar than the player could actually earn. Fortunately, the player could earn a Bike Voucher by speaking to the Pokémon Fan Club Chairman, which could be traded for a new bike. The bike drastically increases the movement speed of the player, as well as allowing them to enter the Bicycle Road. The bike was even easier to use in Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen, as the ability to bind Key Items to the select button had been introduced.

The poke_times Twitter account (via Kotaku) recently hit one million followers, advancing the long tradition of the Pokémon franchise on Twitter. To celebrate this milestone, The Pokémon Company has created a life-sized replica of Red’s bike from Pokémon Red & Blue. People who post a specific hashtag in Japanese will be entered into a prize draw to receive the bike. According to the official Pokémon website, the contest is only for people in Japan. Details about the contest have been posted on the poke_times Twitter page. The giveaway is currently live and it will run until August 3, when the winner will be declared.

The people who are worried about Professor Oak calling them and telling them not to ride the bike indoors are in luck. The bike is only a replica and cannot actually be ridden around. The only other major changes to the bike’s design are a Poké Ball pattern on the tires and joints, and shapes of the starter Pokémon and Pikachu’s heads on the inside of the wheels. The model will also play the biking theme from the original game.

Bicycles have been a major part of the Pokémon franchise over the years, even if they are sometimes replaced with rideable Pokémon. They capture the spirit of kids going out on adventures and exploring the world around them. The bike from Pokémon Red & Blue (and later, Pokémon FireRed & LeafGreen) is well-remembered by fans of the series, and one lucky Pokémon fan in Japan will be able to display a one of a kind replica of it in their own home.
