In light of Pokémon’s  25th anniversary celebration, the franchise will include Eevee in its upcoming 2021 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade float. Pokémon has had a presence in the annual parade since 2001, with its massive Pikachu float.

Pokémon had its hands full with upcoming releases and other anniversary-related developments. Most notable are the upcoming Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Generation 4 remakes, as well as the entirely new Pokémon Legends: Arceus – the latter of which looks to change the franchise in big ways with a fresh approach to its gameplay and setting. However, its 25th anniversary celebration efforts went beyond new game announcements and game development. Among other gestures, the franchise released a commemorative anniversary album, featuring songs from artists like Post Malone, Mabel and Vince Staples. Additionally, it even launched a line of Pokémon stained glass figures. These various celebratory efforts have been met with a wide array of reactions from its fanbase, but it’s clear that the Pokémon Company is making a major event out of this landmark year.

Now, as the year draws to a close, Pokémon is continuing its anniversary festivities by announcing the addition of Eevee to its Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade float this year. Colin Palmer, vice president of marketing for The Pokémon Company International, explained Pikachu and Eevee are “the perfect ambassadors” for the brand – a claim that can be corroborated by how Eevee and its popular Pokémon evolutions have long-been strongly associated with the brand.

The announcement included a picture of the float, which will feature Pikachu and Eevee on a sled made to look like the iconic red and white Poké Ball. This marks the fourth float design Pokémon has had in the parade, with its previous three designs exclusively featuring Pikachu. While it’s unclear if this is a one-off just for the 25th anniversary, the parade’s producer said he was excited for the two to be “delighting viewers for many years to come,” so it seems like Eevee might be sticking around.

With new games, cards, music, and everything else coming out this year, Pokémon appears to be adamant on continuing well-past its 25 years. The new game releases are occurring within months of each other, and the franchise regularly releases television shows, movies and other visual media. Plus, there is always more news to be expected, with one leaker cryptically teasing big Pokémon news in 2022.
