Poppy Playtime Fans Think Mommy Long Legs Is Based On 1990s Doll

Poppy Playtime fans are speculating about a new character referred to as Mommy Long Legs seen in the trailer for Poppy Playtime‘s Chapter 2: Fly in a Web. Fans suggest that Mommy Long Legs looks very similar to a popular doll from the 1990s and may be based on her. The latest trailer for the upcoming chapter of Poppy Playtime was released in late February, and multiple fan theories have erupted.

The indie survival horror by MOB Games titled Poppy Playtime takes players through an abandoned toy factory called Playtime Co. While the environment is outwardly child-friendly and innocent, players encounter a terrifying stuffed doll with sharp teeth called Huggy Wuggy who, for an unknown reason, chases and attacks the player. Part of the horror and suspense arises from the vagueness of the plot and most Poppy Playtime lore is not uncovered in the first chapter. However, the recent trailer reveals aspects of Chapter 2, including a new character (most likely an antagonist similar to Huggy Wuggy) who is being referred to as Mommy Long Legs. The creature is pink with a welcoming face and friendly voice, however, her stretchy limbs seem grotesque, especially when considering she will most likely be after the player.

Fans have already theorized about the latest Poppy Playtime character. In a YouTube video by Tericho, he discusses many Poppy Playtime fan theories, including a recently popularized one about Mommy Long Legs origin. Many in the community have highlighted that her appearance is extremely similar to that of a beloved doll from the 1990s named Betty Spaghetty. Both characters feature a curled swoop in the front of their hair, with a side ponytail featuring tendrils of hair, long arms wearing bangles, and large eyes with painted on eyelashes. Most interesting, though, is Betty Spaghetty’s interchangeable body.

Tericho suggests that Mommy Long Legs may change forms at some point in the game, considering the trailer displays her as almost delighted that the main character is present, while she is meant to be an antagonist. This is extremely similar to the terrifying changes of Poppy Playtime Chapter One‘s antagonist Huggy Wuggy, whose theories suggest he may be an experiment of Playtime Co. The trailer doesn’t reveal much else about Mommy Long Legs, besides the threatening character referring to the player as a “playmate” and the implication that she sees other toys in the factory as her children. Speculations on her actual purpose in Chapter 2 are widespread and fans are excited to explore Playtime Co. once again.

Poppy Playtime has impressed many survival horror fans, providing an interesting twist with the use of the beloved GrabPack to a frequently done concept. Although the first-person indie horror game stands out among others, many have reasonably compared Poppy Playtime to the Five Nights At Freddy‘s franchise, especially the newest title Security Breach which has a very similar environment and feel. Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 is highly anticipated and is expected to be available at some point in March. The new chapter may provide even more aspects that wow players and allow the indie horror series to excel.

Poppy Playtime Chapter 2: Fly in a Web will be available on PC and Android in March 2022.
