Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was an unprecedented huge success when Saban debuted it in 1993. The hit series, about teenagers with attitude as colorful heroes, led to a franchise and pop culture sensation. For fans of the show, it was hard to imagine a reboot of the original characters and story.

In 2017, the franchise’s original creator helped develop the third movie installment as a reboot of the show. Power Rangers still followed the story of five teenagers given access to the Morphin grid by the wizard Zordon. The movie’s new title actors may seem familiar to fans and some of the actors’ roles led them to bigger and better work on the big and small screen.

9 David Denman: The Office

David Denman played the role of Jason’s (Dacre Montgomery) father, Sam Scott and fans got to see the rough and bumpy relationship between the father and son. Before taking part in the Power Rangers movie, though, fans might recall him from the hit mockumentary sitcom, The Office.

Denman started out by playing Roy Anderson as a recurring guest in season 1 before becoming the main character in seasons 2 and 3. Anderson was a warehouse dock worker for the Scranton branch. Fans more often remember him for being engaged to Pam Beesly (Jenna Fischer).

8 Bill Hader: Barry

Bill Hader gained recognition as a cast member in Saturday Night Live. The actor became well known for various comedy movies, like his role as Studio Executive Rob Slolom in Tropic Thunder as well as voice roles in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs. After voicing Alpha 5 in Power Rangers, Hader would star in his own show titled Barry. 

The 2018 dark comedy show would follow Hader as Barry Berkman – a hitman who travels to Los Angeles for a job. Things take a turn when Barry finds himself taking an acting class and questioning his life choices. Hader is also known for portraying the adult version of Richie in It Chapter Two.

7 Bryan Cranston: Breaking Bad

Zordon was the famed wizard trapped in a time warp after defeating Rita Repulsa, who gives the Rangers their powers and morphers. The character was played by actor Bryan Cranston and it’s easy for any television lover to know the number one show Cranston is recognized for.

From 2008 until 2013, Cranston played the title role of Walter White in the crime drama show, Breaking Bad. White’s life spirals out of control when he learns that he has terminal cancer. In desperation, he turns to the drug business. White quickly became one of the most beloved villain main characters on television.

6 Elizabeth Banks: Pitch Perfect

Elizabeth Banks is a notable actor who has starred in numerous movies, from The 40-Year-Old Virgin to the Charlie’s Angel reboot movie, which she also directed and produced. In Power Rangers, she played the famed villain Rita Repulsa who seeks to destroy the Rangers and take the Zeo crystals. Movie fans will remember Banks for playing the role of Gail Abernathy-McKadden in the Pitch Perfect franchise movies.

That’s not all Banks is highly credited for. She gained notoriety for playing the character of Effie Trinket who oversees District 12’s tributes in the Hunger Games in The Hunger Games franchise. Banks also starred alongside Seth Rogen in the best-friends-turned-couple comedy movie Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

5 RJ Cyler: Sierra Burgess Is A Loser

Before RJ Cycler became the brainiac Blue Ranger, Billy Cranston, in Power Rangers, he was known for a 2015 movie titled, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl as Earl Jackson. The comedy-drama was based on a novel of the same name about a young teen whose life changes when he meets a classmate with leukemia.

A year after his role as the Blue Ranger, Cycler would star in the Netflix teen romance movie, Sierra Burgess Is a Loser. Cycler played the role of Dan, Sierra’s (Shannon Purser) best friend who disapproves of her plot to catch the eye of her crush.

4 Ludi Lin: Mortal Kombat

Chinese-Canadian actor Ludi Lin took on the role of Zack Talyor, the Black Ranger. After his role in the reboot movie, Lin played the role of Lance in the Black Mirror episode, “Striking Vipers, “a virtual reality character in a fighting game that Danny Parker (Anthony Mackie) plays.

Lin is also soon to be recognized for taking on the role of Liu Kang in the 2021 Mortal Kombat martial art fantasy movie. He is also a recurring character as Kerwin in the CW adaptation show, Kung Fu.

3 Becky G: Gnome Alone

Becky G isn’t notorious for being an actor just yet. She is instead a Billboard ranking singer/songwriter with multiple hit singles with famous artists. She has collaborated and been featured on songs with Pitbull, Snoop Dog, and Sean Paul. Power Rangers was Becky G’s first major movie role as the Yellow Ranger, Trini Kwan.

A year after her movie role, she voiced the character of Chloe in the animated movie, Gnome Alone. In 2018, Becky G would star alongside Alex Neustaedter in the science fiction adventure movie, A.X.L., as Sara Reyes.

2 Naomi Scott: Aladdin

For Disney Channel fans, Naomi Scoot would be familiar as Kimberly, the Pink Ranger in Power Rangers. One of her first roles on screen was in the Disney Channel television movie, Lemonade Mouth, as Mo. After her role as a Power Ranger, Scott rose to stardom in the live-action movie, Aladdin.

Scott played the famous role of Princess Jasmine, the princess who wants to experience a different side of life and falls in love with a peasant. Fans were in awe of Scott’s powerful and inspirational song “Speechless” in the movie. In 2019, fans got to see Scott in the role of Elena Houghlin in the Charlie’s Angel reboot movie.

1 Dacre Montgomery: Stranger Things

Dacre Montgomery had big shoes to fill taking on the role of the Red Ranger and leader, Jason Scott. Prior to the role, Montgomery wasn’t well known as an actor, but after Power Rangers, he would land a role as a character that many fans disliked on screen.

He played the role of Billy Hargrove in the hit Netflix series, Stranger Things. Montgomery held on to the role for three seasons and was the verbally abusive and rash bully to his stepsister, Max (Sadie Sink). Fans had heart eyes over Billy’s rough attractiveness, but there was no denying he was a bad seed.
