Warning: contains a preview of Mighty Morphin #16!

The Eltarian War is slowly but swiftly nearing an end, but first Zordon must lead his Power Rangers into battle. But this time, it won’t be as a leader giving orders from the Command Center, but actually leading the charge in person for Mighty Morphin #16. The latest issue of the series serves as the penultimate chapter in the Eltarian War.

The Eltarian War has been an ongoing saga ever since it was first teased at the very beginning of the series, which since the first issue has offered flashbacks of a young Zordon on Eltar, showcasing his evolution from inexperienced soldier to Chief Guardian of Eltar. Things culminate not only in Lord Zedd – whose secret origin story reveals Zedd to be Zordon’s former Eltarian ally, Zophram –  leading a city-wide onslaught on Angel Grove, but the Guardians of Eltar themselves invading the planet. The final blow to Zordon becomes literal once another former friend, Zartus, strikes at his energy tube. If not for Blue Ranger Billy quickly finding another way to contain his energy, Zordon would have died.

Those who are most familiar with Zordon’s mentorship role as portrayed in the original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television series may struggle to wrap their heads around the idea of the normally sage savant Zordon actually being a fighter. Even those who have kept up with the Mighty Morphin comic book series know that Zordon hasn’t done much of any fighting since his life back on Eltar, which was many years prior to the present day. However, as seen in the midst of his skirmish with Zedd, Zordon certainly held his own in his new suit as if he never lost a step.

Mighty Morphin #15 ended with a cliffhanger of Zartus coming face-to-face with his long desired Zeo Crystal. Zordon will need all of the mileage he can get out of his new suit if he wants to stop Zartus before he can harness unimaginable power. To see if he and his Power Rangers can do it and, most importantly, to see more of Zordon‘s suit in action, fans can pick up Mighty Morphin #16 at digital stores and local comic book shops now.
