On Saturday, April 2, select GameStop stores across the United States will have limited quantities of PS5 console bundles available to purchase in-store. The PS5 has remained in short supply around the globe since hitting the market well over a year ago in November 2020. Of course, pandemic-induced part shortages share the bulk of the blame, with various industries continuing to suffer under the weight of semiconductor supply constraints. Even recent news from the likes of Ford and General Motors suggests the chip shortage will not come to a halt anytime soon.

Though the PlayStation 5 is no longer keeping pace with PS4 sales during the same time frame in its life cycle, the newer Sony console still boasts impressive sales numbers. As of December 31, 2021, the fifth PlayStation-branded home console had topped 17.3 million units sold worldwide. Comparatively, the PS4 reached a staggering sales total of 18.5 million by early January 2015. This does not spell doom for the current-gen hardware, of course, but Sony is no doubt frustrated by its inability to fulfill supply demands. Fortunately, some prospective PS5 owners will have a chance to purchase the console this coming weekend.

Tomorrow, April 2, GameStop stores around the United States will play host to an in-store event wherein customers can purchase PlayStation 5 bundles. Per usual, quantities will be limited and only available to PowerUp Rewards Pro members, according to a post on GameStop’s official website. At the time of writing, the retailer has yet to detail what exactly the bundles will include. Pricing details presently remain under wraps, as well. A map of store availability features below:

As is often the case, the unspecified limited quantities mean available PS5 console bundles will be sold on a first-come-first-serve basis. Those hoping to secure a PS5 this weekend should, thus, check with their local GameStop about availability, store hours, and the like, especially since there’s no way of knowing when another restock will hit brick and mortar storefronts.

The PlayStation ecosystem has quite the year ahead of it, even with releases such as Horizon Forbidden West and Gran Turismo 7 now in the rearview mirror. Apparently, the eagerly-anticipated God of War: Ragnarök remains on track for a 2022 release, though Sony and developer Santa Monica Studio have yet to so much as tease a release window. In addition, the publisher recently announced plans for a revamped PS Plus service which will go live sometime in June, complete with a tiered model that ropes PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3, and PS4-era games into the mix.
