In the Tales of Arise demo’s Graphics Mode, Xbox Series X|S runs the title about 10 to 15fps faster than Playstation 5. Bandai Namco unleashed the Tales of Arise demo yesterday, August 18, across last-gen and current-gen PlayStation and Xbox consoles. If and when a free trial on PC will go live presently remains a mystery.

The slice of game on offer in the demo is quite impressive, given that all six playable characters feature in the experience, which includes Alphen, Dohalim, Kisara, Law, Rinwell, and Shionne. The trial phase also allows players to explore each character’s special Boost Attack ability, an all-new combat element that can turn the tide of battle under dire circumstances. In addition, those who download the demo will gain free access to Tales of Arise’s Vacation Hootle DLC for use in the final product.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

A comparison video from YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits shows the differences between the Tales demo’s performance across all PlayStation and Xbox platforms. Notably, Tales of Arise boasts two different gameplay modes: Performance on PS5/Xbox Series X targets a resolution of 1620p at 60fps; Graphics Mode pushes for 4K/60fps. The option that favors Performance reliably maintains 60fps on both PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, based on the footage below. However, neither of the high-end consoles can keep up 60fps in the Graphics Mode, with PS5 struggling the most in this regard. During exploration segments, Series X’s Graphics Mode tops off at around the low 50s, while PS5 vacillates between the low 40s to 50s. Combat results in the most significant dips on PS5, usually hovering in the low to mid 40s; on the other hand, combat encounters on Series X sit around the high 50s.

Unless something changes between now and the September release, Tales of Arise’s Performance Mode will offer the most stable experience on the current-gen hardware. Graphics Mode on Xbox Series X will run far more reliably than its PlayStation 5 counterpart, though.

As the first mainline installment since 2016’s Tales of Berseria, the excitement surrounding Tales of Arise remains at an all-time high. Fans have plenty of reasons to celebrate the forthcoming title, too, especially since developer Bandai Namco Studios is comprised of numerous Tales of veterans.

Tales of Arise comes to PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on September 10.
