Psychonauts 2: Where to Get A Spare Brain For Nick

Psychonauts 2 features a colorful cast of characters including Nick Johnsmith, a man desperately in need of a spare brain. During the quest “Repair Ford’s Shattered Mind,” players must retrieve fragments of Ford Cruller’s broken mind. There are several pieces of his mind scattered throughout the many different levels of Psychonauts 2. In order to retrieve the piece from the secure mailroom, players must help Nick get a spare brain.

The quest description gives players a hint about where to find a spare brain. Although not explicitly stated, players are directed toward Otto’s lab. Otto Mentalis’ lab in the Quarry has a variety of scientific things, it would only make sense he has spare brains.

First, players must get to Otto’s lab. Head down to the reception area in the Motherlobe of Psychonauts 2. Amusingly, players can use one of Otto’s inventions, the OTTO B.O.N. system, to fast travel to this area. This leads players to the Quarry section of the map. Players must then head toward the right side of the platform. New platforms start ascending from below. Hop off the edge and jump along the platforms appearing with each jump. Toward the end of the platforms, players will clearly be able to see the sign for Otto’s lab. Enter the lab and talk to Otto Mentalis, if players haven’t spoken with him already.

Finding Nick Johnsmith A Spare Brain In Psychonauts 2

Players may be familiar with Otto already due to his Otto-Matic machines in the main hub. These machines dispense helpful items such as Psychonauts 2 Psitanium upgrades. After players talk to Otto, they must head to the area behind where he stands. Behind the shelves and scientific instruments, there is a large machine with two screens. Each of these screens has an image of a brain flashing on it.

Interact with the brain-machine and select the option titled “unprocessed minds.” The machine shows a list of unprocessed minds that have closed lock symbols next to the names. Players cannot dispense any of the locked brains. However, the last name on the list, Heptadome Harry, has an unlocked symbol next to it. Pick the “Heptadome Harry” option and retrieve his brain from the machine.

Once Psychonaut 2 players have Heptadome Harry’s brain, they must return to Nick Johnsmith the mailroom. Find Nick squeezing his head in a vice grip while acting dazed. A cutscene plays where Raz opens a door on the back of Nick’s mind and transfers the brain of Heptadome Harry into Nick. Nick then feels revitalized, and the fragment of Ford Cruller’s mind nearby can be retrieved.

Psychonauts 2 is available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC.
