Queer Eye‘s 6th season premiered on Netflix on New Year’s Eve, and star Karamo is letting fans in on some secrets, like why the animal rescue episode was so hard for him to film. Karamo is one of five members of the show’s Fab 5, accompanied by Bobby Berk, Tan France Antoni Porowski, and Jonathan Van Ness. While each star has their own area of expertise, which they utilize to help the episode’s nominated hero, Karamo is a lifestyle guru who helps people face their struggles and think more positively about themselves and their lives. The star is also a passionate activist who promotes equality and self-acceptance.

A season 6 episode of Queer Eye follows Jamie Wallace Grenier, the founder of Safe In Austin Rescue Ranch, a rescue organization for animals and children with special needs. Like many of the people featured on the show, Jamie is very overworked and is often so busy taking care of everyone else that she fails to prioritize her own well-being. The episode saw the Fab 5 out of their element in a much dirtier setting. During the episode, Karamo sat down with Jamie to discuss her passion for helping others and how she could prioritize herself instead of focusing so much attention on others.

While the Queer Eye stars have fun wherever they go and are always happy to help improve another person’s life, Karamo admits that the episode was definitely the hardest for him to film. The star took to Twitter to respond to fans who had some questions about the show’s 6th season, and he revealed what made the episode so difficult. Karamo admitted that he has a terrible fear of animals and farms, so being at the ranch was challenging for him. He also confessed that he’d had “several breakdowns” while filming, adding, “I mean crying hysterically while shooting in front of everyone.

However, while the episode wasn’t the easiest Karamo’s ever filmed, he did admit that he loved the episode’s hero, Jamie. Understandable, as Jamie was portrayed as an incredibly empathic and caring person who wants to bring joy to others. The star also answered fans’ questions regarding who his favorite hero of the season was. Karamo told fans that every hero of season 6 was amazing; however, he felt particularly blessed when he was able to help Angel, from the season’s second episode, reunite with her father.

Animals and farms are surely not for everyone and while Jamie’s passionate about working on the ranch, Karamo is clearly much more comfortable watching from afar. It was still great to see that despite Karamo’s fears, he was able to connect with the hero and help her understand the importance of putting yourself first. This may be the last time fans get to see the Fab 5 hang out with a bunch of animals if Karamo has a say. However, the Queer Eye guys can hardly turn down an opportunity to help someone in need, so Karamo may just find himself pushing through another grueling episode if the opportunity comes up.
