With the recent release of Quentin Tarantino’s first novelization of any of his films, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, what better time to rank the legendary writer and director’s iconic filmography according to the cinephiles at Ranker. Tarantino is one of the last remaining auteur filmmakers still working in Hollywood.

His unique cinematic style, extremely engaging scripts that often read more like novels themselves, and some of the most violent scenes in mainstream cinema have made Tarantino a household name and a director that almost every actor would love to work with.

10 Jackie Brown

Jackie Brown is Quentin Tarantino’s third film he wrote and directed, and is one of the only scripts Tarantino wrote that wasn’t an original piece of material as it was based on the Elmore Leonard novel, Rum Punch.

The film is about a flight attendant getting nabbed by the FBI for smuggling, and they pressure her to become an informant against the corrupt drug dealer she works for.  Jackie Brown features incredible performances from Pam Grier, Robert Forster, and frequent Tarantino collaborator Samuel L. Jackson as well as some of Tarantino’s funniest characters.

9 From Dusk Till Dawn

From Dusk Till Dawn is an action horror film about two criminals and their hostages unknowingly seeking refuge in a truck stop populated by vampires and chaos ensues.

Like many Tarantino films, this movie has become something of a cult classic due to iconic performances by Salma Hayek, George Clooney, and even Tarantino himself making this one of his only leading roles in a film.  Tarantino wrote the script that was directed by his long-time friend and collaborator, Robert Rodriguez.

8 True Romance

True Romance is a crime romance film about a pop culture geek marrying a call girl and stealing drugs that they then try and sell, but the dangerous owners of the drugs track them down and attempt to get it back. The film is one of the few in Tarantino’s career that his only involvement was writing the script.

Despite Tarantino’s limited involvement though, True Romance has many Tarantino trademarks in it. The movie features amazing performances by Christian Slater, Gary Oldman, and Patricia Arquette.

7 Kill Bill Volume 2

Kill Bill Volume 2 is the sequel and finale to writer and director Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill film series.  The movie sees Uma Thurman reprise her role as The Bride as she continues on her path of vengeance against her ex-lover and former boss, Bill.

The Kill Bill franchise is Tarantino’s homage to classic Kung-Fu and assassin movies, and many fans think Uma Thurman’s portrayal of The Bride is one the best antiheroes in movie history.

6 Inglourious Basterds

Inglourious Basterds is an action war drama that takes place in Nazi-occupied France during WWII about an extremely lethal group of Jewish soldiers’ plan to assassinate top-level Nazi leaders.

The film is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and features incredible performances by Christoph Waltz, Brad Pitt, and Diane Kruger.  Inglourious Basterds is often cited as one of Tarantino’s best by his fans, but that is a hotly debated topic as all of Tarantino’s films are incredible.

5 Kill Bill Volume 1

Kill Bill Volume 1 is a kung-fu action movie about a former assassin waking up from a four-year coma and delivering vengeance to her former team of assassins who betrayed her. The film is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and stars Uma Thurman in the titular role of The Bride as well as David Carradine, Michael Madsen, and Lucy Liu.

Tarantino fans have been begging the filmmaker for a follow-up to the Kill Bill franchise, but it’s highly unlikely that the director returns to the series.

4 The Hateful Eight

The Hateful Eight is a crime mystery western written and directed by Quentin Tarantino about a bounty hunter and his prisoner seeking shelter from a storm in a cabin that is currently inhabited by a group of nefarious characters.  The film, like many other Tarantino movies, has an incredible cast featuring Kurt Russel, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Samuel L. Jackson.

The Hateful Eight is one of legendary director Paul Thomas Anderson’s favorite films of all time and is an underrated classic among Tarantino’s iconic filmography.

3 Django Unchained

Django Unchained is an action western about a freed slave, with the help of a German bounty hunter, setting off to rescue his wife from a brutal plantation owner in Mississippi.  The film is written and directed by Quentin Tarantino and features incredible performances from Jaime Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio as well as Christoph Waltz who won an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his role as Dr. King Schultz.

The film is definitely one of Tarantino’s most violent, but its incredible action, script, and story make it unmissable.

2 Reservoir Dogs

Reservoir Dogs is an action crime thriller about a simple jewelry heist that goes incredibly wrong and the remaining criminals begin to suspect one of them is a police informant as they wait at an abandoned warehouse. The cult classic has gained popularity as Tarantino’s career has gained traction.

This was Tarantino’s first feature film he wrote and directed, and its success was monumental for his career. Reservoir Dogs features fantastic early performances from Tim Roth, Harvey Keitel, Michael Madsen, and Steve Buscemi.

1 Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction is writer and director Quentin Tarantino’s action crime epic that follows the lives of two hitmen, a corrupt boxer, a gangster and his wife, and a pair of diner bandits as the four stories of violence and redemption intertwine throughout Los Angeles. The film was Tarantino’s second feature he ever made, following the success of Reservoir Dogs.

Pulp Fiction features iconic performances from John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, and Uma Thurman, and is an absolute classic in American cinema.
