Rachel Zegler joked that she couldn’t believe Disney’s choice of snacks on the Snow White set. The talented actress recently made her acting debut starring in the film adaptation of West Side Story, directed by Steven Spielberg. Her performance, as well as the film, garnered critical acclaim and many plaudits, eventually landing Zegler a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. She became the first actress of Colombian descent to claim the award, and was also the youngest winner, being only 20 years old.

Zegler was revealed to be cast as Snow White in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation back in June of 2021, taking on the iconic role as the first Disney princess, with the original film being released around 85 years ago. The live-action adaptation was announced in 2016, with Marc Webb set to be directing the film and the live-action Aladdin songwriters, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, signed on to take charge of the music. November 2021 saw Snow White reveal more about the project, with Greta Gerwig reportedly tapped to write the film’s script following her success with the likes of Little Women and Lady Bird. It was also confirmed that Gal Gadot has joined the cast, portraying the Evil Queen.

Recently, Zegler posted an amusing tweet about the Snow White set’s snacks, jokingly in disbelief about the food on offer. The 20-year-old actress wrote that she would be staying away from apples as the poisonous apple is best known for putting the princess to sleep in the original Snow White. Zegler continues the thread by showing fans the choices of food on the set, all being apple-related. Check out the tweet below:

The casting of Zegler as Snow White is a brilliant choice, especially after her outstanding performance in West Side Story, displaying her talents in both acting and singing. However, landing the role of Snow White has not been smooth sailing, to say the least, with criticism following as soon as the announcement was released. Many critics initially called out her lack of experience, although the announcement was revealed months before West Side Story‘s release. Others questioned her casting in terms of her ethnicity, with some slating the idea of an actress of Latin descent taking on the famous Snow White role. Zegler respectfully responded to the backlash, showing her maturity and strength through the unfair criticism.

It will be exciting to see how the young actress portrays Snow White, and it will be even more interesting to see how the live-action adaptation can work out compared to the others. Despite the criticism towards them, the numbers do not lie, and the success these films bring for Disney is incredible, with the most notable one being 2017’s Beauty and the Beast, which grossed over $1.2 billion at the box office. Disney stands by their successful formula, with many more classics being turned into live-action coming out soon.
