A newly leaked screenshot suggests that the next operator will be a healer in the upcoming North Star season for Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege. Released in 2015, the online tactical shooter has been consistently popular thanks to the continuous introduction of new content, events, and updates from Ubisoft Montreal.

In March, six years after its release, Rainbow Six Siege hit an all-time record high of over 201,053 concurrent players on Steam alone. This record player high was hit largely due to a free-to-play weekend for the game, combined with the introduction of Operation Crimson Heist, which also included a new attack operator named Flores. A character who is notable for being the game’s first gay operator.

As the game quickly approaches Year 6 Season 2, titled North Star, a newly leaked screenshot posted by R6leaks on Twitter has indicated the incoming operator will be a healer, codenamed Thunderbird. The screenshot depicts an operator holding a deployable device depicting a red star logo, called a Kona Station, which can be seen healing nearby players in another short clip posted by R6leaks. Thunderbird is expected to be a defender operator, with level three speed, starting off with either SPAS-15 or a Spear .308 for their primary weapon, Bearing-9 or Q929 for their secondary, and the ability to utilize either C4 or an impact grenade in their gadget slot.

Earlier today, a teaser image confirming Operation North Star was posted by Ubisoft, which depicts a search and rescue helicopter painted in yellow and red with the same red star logo featured in the leaked screenshot by R6leaks. Most notably, the colors chosen for the helicopter in the teaser image are also used in real life for the Canadian Armed Forces Search and Rescue aircraft. This coincides with the information provided by Ubisoft earlier in the year, stating that the game would be receiving an indigenous operator hailing from the Nakoda nation in Western Canada. Following Ubisoft’s new push towards using battle passes for microtransactions, this will mean the new operator would most likely be available for those who purchase the upcoming season’s battle pass.

Although there has been no confirmation on the start date of the upcoming season, based on the duration of past seasons, North Star can probably be expected sometime in the beginning of June. Should the leaks hold true, Thunderbird will be a huge change to the defender’s roster, as currently, Doc’s Stim Pistol ability is the only means for an operator to heal during a round. Perhaps more notable is Thunderbird’s speed level of three vs Doc’s one, which will make the new operator much more agile in comparison, and possibly a stronger choice for defence.

Rainbow Six Siege is available on PC, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
