Sylvester Stallone hasn’t totally ruled out Rambo 6, and if it does happen it should not only bring in the soldier’s brother, but also cast a certain actor in the role. While he was introduced as a traumatized Vietnam vet who wages a misguided war on a small town in First Blood, John Rambo soon became one of the most iconic action heroes of the 1980s. The second and third movies put much more of an emphasis on firepower and explosions – not to mention Stallone’s chiseled physique.

The underperformance of the third movie saw the Rambo movies put on ice for over 20 years, though in the years that followed, various ideas for part four were knocked around. Sylvester Stallone finally strapped on the headband again for 2008’s brutal war movie Rambo, which saw the misanthropic ex-solider drawn into a bloody rescue mission in Burma. The most recent entry was 2019’s Rambo: Last Blood, which positioned itself as the final installment and saw the title character seek revenge on the cartel who attacked his adoptive daughter.

Rambo: Last Blood was met with mixed reviews and box office, but while it ended with Stallone’s hero badly wounded, it also saw him ride off on his horse, leaving the door open a tad for his survival. While Last Blood could be the final entry, Stallone has since battered around a potential idea for Rambo 6. Past entries established that Rambo is half-Indian, and in fleeing the authorities following the massacre at his Arizona farm in the fifth movie, he could seek refuge on an Indian reservation. Stallone also stated this could allow him to reconnect with family, making the sixth movie a chance to bring in the soldier’s brother from an unused sequel concept.

One idea for Rambo 4 in the 1990s was that he would return to his hometown and try to reconnect with his estranged brother. His brother would also be the local sheriff, but after Rambo is run out of town due to the locals being aware of his past exploits, he would return once an escaped gang of convicts come to town to kill his brother. Rambo and the sheriff would then have to work together to stop them – all while the town is being hit by a hurricane.

While that concept is a little too large scale for Rambo 6, bringing in Rambo’s brother – as a sheriff no less – could make for a more emotional sequel. None of the films have really explored Rambo’s family history, with both his parents having died before he returned to America following part four. It would make sense for the sheriff, who would likely be estranged given that no mention was made of him in Last Blood, to pursue his brother following the absolute bloodbath he left at their father’s old farm.

When it comes to actors fit for the role, Dave Bautista feels like a perfect choice. He and Sylvester Stallone previously worked together on Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and he only appeared in the Escape Plan sequels so he could work with one of his screen idols. Bautista has also evolved into a fine dramatic actor over the years, so a Rambo 6 where the two actors spar could make for an exciting, and emotional, final chapter for John Rambo.
