Rami Malek has recently revealed that he used to deliver pizzas with his headshots in the boxes to try to get acting jobs. Malek has appeared in many popular movies and shows as his fame has skyrocketed over the last few years. In 2019, he won an Oscar for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Since then, Malek has continued to tackle high-profile projects; the newest James Bond movie, No Time To Die, is his latest on-screen appearance. No Time to Die is currently in theaters worldwide and it has been critically and financially successful so far. The film is Daniel Craig’s final performance as James Bond.

Malek has a very extensive and exciting filmography. The first role he landed was in a 2004 episode of Gilmore Girls. Only two years later in his career, he appeared in Night at the Museum and its two sequels as Pharaoh Ahkmenrah. He appeared in other projects such as The Legend of KorraShort Term 12, and Need for Speed before landing a starring role in the movie Buster’s Mal Heart, for which he received critical acclaim for his performance as the main character Jonás. His rise in popularity is largely due to his award-winning performance as Elliot Alderson in the critically acclaimed 2015 TV series Mr. Robot.

Now, Malek has talked about what he had to do to make ends meet when he was first starting out in his career. He recently appeared on The Late Late Show With James Corden (via E! Online) and discussed how he would put his headshots in pizza boxes that he delivered to high-profile people like George Clooney and Andy Garcia. Check out what Malek had to say down below about getting his first role in Gilmore Girls:

“I got an audition. I don’t think I got a callback. I think it was for, like, an M&M’s commercial. But I was just like, ‘Yeah, do it. I mean, what do you have to lose? I slipped them in every manila envelope, sent them to all my agents. Nobody called back for a year. Then I got one callback.”

Malek’s callback for Gilmore Girls was definitely a great chance for him to finally be able to do what he wanted and act. Slipping in his headshots was definitely an interesting way to get his name and face out there, but it was something he felt like he had to do to get a gig. This led him to eventually gain more roles and more chances to be a lead, which turned him into an award-winning actor.  Malek is also set to appear in David O. Russell’s upcoming untitled film, which also stars Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington, Robert De Niro, and Anya Taylor-Joy.

Rami Malek’s passion to be an actor has definitely paid off for him. He has gone from delivering pizzas, hoping someone will give him a callback, to starring as the villain in one of the most popular film franchises in history. Fans can check out Malek in No Time To Die, which is in theaters now.
