Famous rapper Lil Uzi Vert is teaming up with Webtoon in a brand new collaboration with popular superhero comic unOrdinary. The platform is no stranger to cross collaborations, especially with musical artists. However, this will be the first time the site has ever featured a major American rap artist.

Created by artist and author Uru-Chan, unOrdinary follows ordinary high school student John, living in an extraordinary world where powers and abilities are a normal part of society. As a “cripple,” John has no power to call his own and struggles to live a normal life by avoiding fights from higher-ranking students, such as the Royals, a group of elite students who run the school. His best friend Seraphina is the school’s top-ranking Royal and ACE with a fearsome ability to rewind time but has grown tiresome of the school’s existing hierarchy. Much like My Hero Academia‘s Deku and Baguko, John and Seraphina represent the opposing ends of society making their friendship unacceptable in the eyes of the world.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

On Twitter, Webtoon announced a special collab with unOrdinary and Lil Uzi for a bonus episode featuring the rapper’s hit new single “Demon High”. A promo image by Uru-Chan shows John and Seraphina attending a Lil Uzi concert and posing backstage with the rapper for a heartwarming selfie. The bonus episode follows after the webcomic’s recent return from an 8-day hiatus in early March. Surprising fans with a special treat upon the series’ return.

It’s no secret that Webtoon originals have music playing in the background of special episodes, making this collaboration a perfect fit for the brand. Recently, Webtoon collaborated with Kpop groups BTS, TXT, and ENHYPEN through the Korean label HYBE for three new original fantasy series. The partnership turns the popular idol groups into supernatural warriors fitting into Webtoon’s popular superhero/fantasy genres. The only difference is that Lil Uzi exists within the unOrdinary universe as himself. Further inferring he also possesses a unique ability or power of his own.

Webtoon continues to grow its fan base through partnerships and collaborations that connect fans with the manhwa community to grow its general audience. With popular series like Lore Olympus, True Beauty, and Let’s Play, the app offers a wide variety of series with equally as dedicated fan bases. On top of that, it receives an average of 72 million monthly users. Last Fall, DC Comics announced a new deal with Webtoon for new superhero webcomics. Marvel also is partnering with the webcomic giant for a brand new comic – Eternals: The 500 Year War – proving the surprise collaboration with Lil Uzi Vert and WebtoonunOrdinary is a perfect way to bring fans into the superhero genre.
