Rivet, the secondary protagonist in Insomniac Game’s PS5 exclusive Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, was intentionally designed to be “beefier” than her fellow Lombax Ratchet. Rivet’s inclusion was a break from the Ratchet & Clank norm, but her presence has been widely praised since her debut.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart has only been available for a few short days at the time of writing, but it has already become one of the PlayStation 5’s most prolific assets. Gamers have been blown away by the incredible details found within game, which include (but are not limited to) the detail of the main characters’ fur and the game’s swift loading times. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart makes full use of the PlayStation 5’s incredible new generation tech, making it one of the most beautiful and smooth games currently on the market.

Along with the jaw-dropping graphics found in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, fans have also been marveling over another part of the game’s composition: that of Rivet’s powerful physique. After an image was shared of the leading lady Lombax on Twitter (via Game Revolution), Sony Santa Monica artist Ivanna Liittschwager commented on how muscular Rivet is. Insomniac Game’s 3D character artist Xavier Coelho-Kostolny (aka xavierck3d on Twitter) replied that “I did that.” He then elaborated further, saying that he “specifically made (Rivet’s) arms beefier than Ratchet’s.” However, while Rivet is certainly ripped in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Coelho-Kostolny originally wanted to make her even bigger, admitting that he “… intentionally made her arms thicker than Ratchet’s. In general, she’s more muscular and has a slightly heavier frame despite sharing a lot of animations. I wanted to push it further with thicker limbs and making her heavier overall but didn’t have the opportunity.”

This decision by Coelho-Kostolny is one that has been lauded by fans of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. There is a lot of love out there for Rivet. She has already become an icon for the current generation of games, and there is no doubt that her impressive design has certainly played a part in this. Coelho-Kostolny also worked on Marvel’s Spider-Man and gladly takes the credit for sculpting the webbed hero’s nipples, of all things.

While Rivet’s character model in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is notable, another part of her popularity is due to the fact that she is voiced by the ever-talented Jennifer Hale. Also known for her role as female Shepard in the Mass Effect series, Hale brings an emotional gravitas to Rivet, allowing players to really connect with the fictional character. While it was a bold move by Insomniac Games to introduce another protagonist into an already beloved series, this gamble has certainly paid off. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, along with Rivet, has captivated audiences, making it one of the most coveted PlayStation exclusives available today.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is available now exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
