Red Dead Online will introduce two new legendary bears as part of the naturalist role available to players determined to tame the flora and fauna of the wilds. Part of the continually updated Frontier Pursuits content, the naturalist gives players the chance to delve further into the world of tracking, studying, and hunting the richly and diversely populated wildlife hidden in the far reaches of the game’s natural world.

Frontier Pursuits offers a variety of professions specific to the Wild West in its death throes. The initial release of the Frontier Pursuits update introduced players to three exciting but divergent roles: the bounty hunter, the trader, and the collector. Each role offered a different set of missions, items, and rewards to those looking to add some more depth to their Red Dead Online experience. Another update some months later gave players the trader-adjacent role of moonshiner, opening up another illegal enterprise for players to puruse. The latest update, which released this past summer, introduced the naturalist to the roster, posing the dilemma of whether it’s better to learn from the world’s natural wildlife or hunt them for sport.

According to a the Rockstar Games Newswire, the upcoming update will include two new legendary bears for players to track: the Legendary Owiza Bear, known to wander the Dakota River all by its lonesome, and the Legendary Ridgeback Spirit Bear, seen near Little Creek River with a solid red stripe down its back. Both of these bears look to pose a much more serious threat to players seeking to either sample or skin their ever-valuable pelts. On top of that, players who are able to do so will receive a free hat up to level 15 as a reward.

The addition of these two bears also brings in the opportunity to sell their pelts to Gus MacMillan’s Trapper Store, where players can get a tidy sum for the pelts, as well as access to the Owiza and Ridgeback Spirit Garment Sets and a free coat in the Wheeler, Rawson & Co. Catalogue. Checking in at Harriet’s shop can net players a Rabbit Vitalism Studies Pamphlet, unlocking the final key to becoming a rabbit running across the landscape. Rockstar’s recent addition of Vitalism was somewhat controversial, as it adds a mystical element to the otherwise grounded Wild West game, but it’s also one of the most original pieces of content added to the game in some time.

The further expansion of the naturalist role, as well as the other roles available, has definitely been an exciting addition to the Read Dead Online format. With this new update, the Owisa and Ridgeback Spirit Legendary Bears will no doubt give players another chunk of content to chew on as they await yet another update from Rockstar. Cowpokes, outlaws, and hunters should jump in now to take advantage of these opportunities, as many of the ancillary bonuses will only last for this week.
