A Red Dead Online player has claimed the impossible: Reaching level 1,000 in the game already, without using any cheats or glitches. The multiplayer version of Red Dead Redemption 2 offers plenty of online gameplay with the same deep immersion that the single-player mode offers, but the presence of bugs and hackers in Red Dead Online does put a lot more “Wild” in the West, providing unique challenges that players – and developer Rockstar – are still getting used to.

In the online mode, plenty of opportunities await to level up a Red Dead Redemption 2 character. Players can start by easily leveling up through basic tasks like earning awards for selling items, eating plants, and taking care of their horse (as well as seasonal Red Dead Online challenges). However, as the game continues awards get more and more difficult to earn. With each level up, the XP cap to reach the next level increases, thus requiring more game time even if players specialize in specific tasks – while occasionally experiencing glitches in Red Dead Online causing them to hogtie themselves. As a result, even players who have played consistently since the beta version of Red Dead Online are only in the 300s for their level progression.

Nonetheless, GTAV_Informer on Twitter claims to be the world’s first rank 1,000 without counting any of the cheaters (thanks, MassivelyOP). The player posted a screenshot to back up the claim, showing more than 27,000,000 XP collected to reach the ultimate level cap. Responders were skeptical, since others have claimed this title in the past and all of them have been found to have used some sort of cheat to achieve such a high rank.

Previous players, such as gamertag “J D B,” have reached 1,000 in the past, or at least gotten close to it. However, these gamers have been shown to use various exploits and bugs in the online mode to get there. Some use direct hacks to make objects easier. Others line up infinite headshots on alternate account characters created for that exact purpose, and many try to make use of Red Dead Online’s occasionally disgusting, time-saving bugs to complete objectives as fast as possible.

So, did GTAV_Informer really make it to 1,000 the legitimate way? It’s almost impossible to tell unless Rockstar does a full investigation and awards a medal or similar recognition. With most of the dedicated players left in the 300s, it’s hard to see how even the most obsessed gamer could have reached 1,000 without at least a few tricks up their sleeve. Red Dead Online in particular is currently full of tricks, from hacked skeleton mobs to money duplication tricks. Cheaters do always tend to get caught, however, primarily by other watchful players, so this is one claim worth keeping an eye on.
