Thanks to its incredible attention to detail and compelling story, Red Dead Redemption 2 is among the most well-reviewed games ever. Since its release in 2018, the title has accumulated a lot of fans.

These people don’t just love playing the game, either. Many of them make Red Dead the subject of their discussions, artwork, and, of course, memes. Every popular piece of media gets memes made about it these days. In this case, it’s not just the game itself, but the protagonist, too. Fans have poked plenty of fun at Arthur Morgan and his actions, and here are some of the funniest examples.

10 Antagonizing NPCs

One of the most impressive features in the game is the ability to talk to random NPCs. Arthur can either give them a nice greeting or antagonize them. Of course, many players choose the latter option, and this meme tries to re-create those instances.

It’s hilariously accurate, as Arthur’s outbursts often feel completely out of the blue, and it certainly doesn’t paint the picture of a man who’s striving for redemption like the title of the game suggests.

9 Arthur’s Honor System

While GTA enables players to go on a murderous rampage with no long-term consequences—Trevor, Michael, and Franklin can do billions of dollars of property damage and still walk free—Red Dead is different. If Arthur does bad things, he loses honor.

Yet, Juanhbueno’s meme points out why the morality system is a little strange. Yes, it does punish misdeeds, but, if Arthur does enough good things, no matter how small they are, he becomes a saint again. Murderers shouldn’t be forgiven simply for saying hello to people.

8 The Magic Strawberries

Red Dead Redemption Memes points out a classic piece of video game logic in this one. To heal during Red Dead Redemption 2, Arthur needs to eat, and this is the Wild West, so he’s not carrying around military rations; he’s got slabs of meats and canned goods.

This is all fine when Arthur is roaming around. Yet, it’s a little ridiculous during a battle when the protagonist takes a bullet and then patches himself up with some strawberries. That’s par for the course for gaming, though.

7 The Risk Of Saint Denis

Saint Denis is one of the most beautiful locations in the game, and it’s particularly memorable thanks to how incredibly separate it is from any of the other areas in the game. There’s seriously nothing else quite like it in either of the Red Dead games.

However, the glee is short-lived because the gunslinger quickly discovers how annoying it is to travel around the area on horseback. There are so many people that it’s impossible not to crash into them. To make matters worse, riding a horse into someone is a criminal offense, and the law is everywhere in Saint Denis. This meme by T0rifaith comically expresses these difficulties.

6 Dutch Ignoring Arthur’s Donations

Dutch’s main goal throughout most of the game is to cultivate enough money for the gang to find a better place to live. Unfortunately, acquiring lots of cash proves difficult, and the leader’s constantly failing plans don’t help.

However, with all of his side quests and activities, Arthur can become quite the rich man during his adventures, and, if he’s kind enough, he donates some of it to the camp. Although, as this meme alludes to, Mr. Van Der Linde seems to ignore that money completely.

5 A Supportive Friend

Arthur’s fellow gang members aren’t just a bunch of heartless gunslingers. Some of them have serious problems; Reverand Swanson is an alcoholic, Sadie is recently widowed, and John has family issues. Thankfully, Arthur is there to provide support.

However, the ‘greet’ and ‘antagonize’ dialog options aren’t always perfect for these situations, particularly at the end of conversations. The protagonist’s cheery goodbyes always feel out of place after serious discussions, and Ahmedeld1998 has summed it up with this meme.

4 Lenny Is More Important Than Micah

Not many people like Micah. He’s a foul, racist, and treacherous human-being, but Dutch still sends the guy on missions throughout the game. One of them sees him and Lenny go scouting near Strawberry. However, only Lenny returns, as Micah stupidly gets himself arrested.

As this meme by Gkidder2655 points out, upon hearing the news, Arthur doesn’t rush off to free the unsavory individual. Instead, he goes to the saloon with Lenny for some hilarious hijinks.

3 Loving Arthur

At the beginning of the game, Arthur isn’t the most honorable person. He is a criminal, after all. Over time, though, he starts to change. The man begins to regret his past transgressions and tries to do better. Yet, no matter how much good he does, he still believes he’s a bad guy.

It’s a sentiment not shared by the majority of players as Ransome-4121’s meme shows. The people controlling the outlaw can’t help but fall in love with the grizzled protagonist.

2 The Importance Of Legendary Pelts

Hunting legendary animals in Red Dead 2 takes plenty of work, and just finding them is hard enough. Yet, it’s worth it, as the reward is a legendary pelt, which Arthur can either sell or make into a piece of fashionable clothing.

The pelts are pretty big, though, and they take up significant space on Arthur’s horse. So, it’s unfortunate when the protagonist then meets a stranger looking for a ride. Even the most honorable version of Arthur would be hesitant to drop the pelt on the floor simply to help an NPC. Azalazel’s meme accurately depicts how most players deal with the dilemma.

1 Scared Of Finishing The Game

As Sjc720 identifies with this meme, players don’t generally want to finish the title’s main campaign. For first-time players, it’s because the game is so absorbing that they want to cherish it. Those on a second-playthrough, though, want to avoid completing the adventure because they already know what happens to Arthur.

Thankfully, there’s plenty to do in the game. So, instead of beating the main story missions, players can lose themselves in the side content while trying to ignore Arthur’s coughing.
