A Red Dead Redemption 2 fan managed to recreate a real-life version of Arthur Morgan’s journal. As anyone who’s played the 2018 hit can attest, the Red Dead Redemption prequel is replete with intricate details. The open-world environments play host to many of them, yet the journal entries that Arthur writes and doodles throughout the adventure house more than a few noteworthy details in its own right.

Like any other in-game journal, Red Dead 2’s offers players a closer look at the protagonist’s inner thoughts. Sure, sometimes Arthur merely scribbles brief notes outlining previous events or sketches a rough image of a nearby animal or landmark. But the notebook often provides additional insight into how the character feels at any given moment, even if he doesn’t verbally express his thoughts during the campaign. It’s a neat tool of exposition that many games continue to adopt, including the likes of The Last of Us Part II.

Reddit user antelopunny recently shared a quick look at their leather-bound recreation of Arthur Morgan’s journal. In a subsequent post in the thread, antelopunny revealed the book boasts 500 pages comprised of Arthur’s writings and those of John Marston’s from the epilogue. The Redditor completed their project thanks to the exhaustive work of another Red Dead Redemption 2 fan, sheilaStmaria, who compiled all of the journal pages into a PDF. Antelopunny was able to modify the PDF for printing, then set to work on handcrafting the cover with “veg-tanned leather” in an effort to capture a design befitting Red Dead 2’s late 19th Century setting.

Because the creator of the original PDF is uncomfortable with sales related to their work, the journal maker no longer plans to sell the recreated books. Unfortunately, Rockstar Games has yet to try profiting from the journal itself, meaning fans who want to bring home their own piece of Arthur Morgan history will have to shop around for other third-party or fan-made projects.

Red Dead Redemption 2 initially took the world by storm in late 2018; continues to move units, too, recently topping a staggering 31 million copies sold. Rockstar supports the game exclusively with online-centric content, though many players still hold out hope that single-player DLC of some kind will eventually see the light of day.
