Red Dead Redemption 2 Player Recreates Almost Every Outfit From RDR1

A creative Red Dead Redemption fan has recreated nearly every outfit from the original game in the sequel. While the outfits are not a perfect match and a few are missing, the end result is uncanny. The most impressive thing is that most of the outfits were made without mods, with a few minor exceptions.

The original Red Dead Redemption had several sets of clothing that protagonist John Marston (or his son Jack) could wear. Depending on the version of the game and DLC, John’s virtual closet could contain up to 24 outfits. Some of these even offer extra perks, like certain gangs considering the player an ally until provoked. The sequel’s protagonist, Arthur Morgan, has a sizeable wardrobe of his own. Arthur also has the option of mixing and matching pants, coats, hats, and shirts to create new outfits.

Reddit user No_Interaction4027 used this option to recreate 16 of John’s outfits in Red Dead Redemption 2. The virtual fashion show was presented as a slideshow, with Arthur modeling them in front of a general store. The only outfits not included were the Mexican Poncho, Reyes’ Rebels Outfit, Expert Hunter, and the Savvy Merchant. The outfits from the “Undead Nightmare” expansion were also excluded, save for the Legend of the Apocalypse. (Warning for RDR1 spoilers in the slideshow.)

The lack of suitable ponchos and vests led to the exclusions. In the comments, N0_Interaction4027 explained that mods were used, but not necessarily to recreate the outfits. Instead, they utilized the John Marston Restoration Project for the unbuttoned vest. The mod also changed a few of Arthur’s physical features, like his hair and stubble. However, No_Interaction emphasized that nearly all of the outfit components can be purchased in the vanilla game if someone wanted to recreate the looks themselves. They also said that the outfits might be possible to make in Red Dead Online thanks to a recent update. They had not tried themselves, but encouraged others to do so.

The open world and multiple sidequests of Red Dead Redemption 2 make it a haven for creative types to express themselves in a historical environment. There are many elements that can be customized, but few are as involved as Arthur Morgan’s wardrobe. While there are plenty of pre-made outfits, players can pick each piece of clothing if they so desire. With such freedom, it is more than a bit surprising that bringing John Marston’s closet back took so long. Even in a stylized version of the Wild West, it still pays to be fashionable.
