Red Dead Redemption 2 fans are petitioning to get Rockstar Games to make single-player DLC for the beloved western. Rockstar has previously stated that it’s not interested in Red Dead Redemption 2 DLC, but that hasn’t stopped fans from trying to change the developer’s mind.

Rockstar has been incredibly successful over the last decade despite only releasing one brand new game in the last generation. Much of that success comes from Grand Theft Auto V’s online mode serving as a massive cash cow for the studio, giving more incentive to flesh out online modes in Rockstar’s games, rather than one-and-done single-player DLCs. Prior to GTA V, Rockstar had made several massive and well-received story DLCs for Grand Theft Auto IV as well as Red Dead Redemption. The open-world developer even promised single-player DLC for Grand Theft Auto V, but scrapped it to focus on GTA Online and the development of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Fans are once again demanding Red Dead Redemption 2 DLC, however. An old Change.org petition from Ivan Ojeda has resurfaced (via Game Rant) asking Rockstar to consider an expansion to the story of Red Dead Redemption 2. Even though it’s an older petition, it never met its goal. But just 3 days ago it surpassed 5,000 supporters. As of June 2020, the petition only had 300 signatures. It still needs about 2,300 signatures to meet its goal, which doesn’t really mean anything as far as official confirmation goes. If nothing else, though, this shows that the hunger for this DLC hasn’t gone away.

Fans also commented suggestions for DLC ranging from a sequel to Undead Nightmare to a prequel DLC that showcases the Blackwater heist that goes wrong. Plenty of people have also suggested DLC following Sadie Adler or Charles Smith after the events of Red Dead Redemption 2 or even a remake of Red Dead Redemption. Whether or not a few thousand people is enough to shake Rockstar’s position is unclear, but clearly the fans don’t plan on backing down regardless.

Rockstar hasn’t announced its next game, but it’s expected that the developer is working on Grand Theft Auto VI. It’s likely that Rockstar is probably far too busy with that, preparing the remaster for Grand Theft Auto V, and supporting GTA Online to want to devote its writing team and game developers to fleshing out an all-new story for Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar seems to be dead set on focusing on delivering the best stories it can in its main games and then spending time expanding its online modes after release. Whether or not that ever changes remains to be seen.
