A Genshin Impact player has uncovered how to kill dogs in-game, though an ominous drop and obvious regret should be more than enough warning for everyone else to avoid the practice altogether. Genshin Impact is the open-world action-RPG from developer miHoYo that has become one of the most popular mobile games in the world, though its availability on other platforms in the PlayStation 4 and PC is part of the reason it’s managed to generate a strong player base so quickly.

Genshin Impact is a game that features its fair share of violence, though even at its worst, the game is generally quite anime-inspired and toned-down to help make it more accessible to younger players. Most of the enemies players defeat are monsters, and the humans that are beaten in combat generally disappear in puffs of smoke, either when they’re knocked out or of their own volition to retreat from battle. One element of Genshin Impact that’s remained (thankfully) untouchable has been its pets – each city area has dogs and cats, but they’re not able to be harmed in any way.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Unfortunately, one Genshin Impact player has managed to bypass the invulnerability of dogs in Liyue and killed one. Reddit user derek56767 posted to the Genshin Impact subreddit with their findings, stating in the post’s title that they believe they’re “going to hell for this.” In the video, the player is able to nudge and clip a dog towards a Liyue well before finally pushing it into the water. Unfortunately, as the All That Glitters event is on and creating special drops from specific mobs, the dog’s disappearance yields a Wick Material, confirming its death when it might otherwise have been argued it simply vanished.

Luckily for everyone, this is the type of glitch that is extremely difficult to accidentally create, so players concerned they may accidentally harm Genshin Impact pets need not worry. Given the ominous drop of the Wick Material and the many players pointing out that killing a dog while getting a reference to the John Wick franchise is a bad sign, it doesn’t seem like players will be looking to recreate this any time soon.

On a much cheerier Genshin Impact pet note, the game recently added the Mini Seelie, with datamining suggesting plans for more in the future. It’s unknown if Travelers will be able to have dogs accompany them as pets in the future, but if they do, hopefully they’ll all learn a lesson from this incident and be extra careful with their pets, treating them with the love, attention, and head pats they all deserve.
