Now that the first film has finally dropped, fans can speculate about the possibility of Reminiscence 2. The original movie, which features Australian superstar Hugh Jackman, has had a mixed reception upon release. However, given the context of the story, there are certainly enough interesting ideas to make a follow-up a genuine possibility.

The first Reminiscence film is set in a dystopian future where people attempt to escape their everyday lives through vividly recreated memories. Jackman himself plays Nick Bannister, a private investigator who specializes in solving mysteries in his clients’ subconscious. Over the course of the movie, he strikes up a passionate relationship with the mysterious Mae, played by Rebecca Ferguson, which takes him down a rabbit hole of violence and intrigue.

Despite the movie’s compelling storyline, strong cast and cutting edge filmmaking, response to the picture has been pretty mixed. Many critics of Reminiscence are particularly torn over the film’s supposedly derivative plot and the blend of several different genres. Will Reminiscence 2 Happen?

In the immediate aftermath of the first movie, Reminiscence 2 seems quite unlikely to get the go-ahead. The film currently boasts a pretty tepid 40% rating on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, which could impact its performance at the box office. What might salvage a sequel is the movie’s release on HBO Max, which could provide a platform for a new project. However, any conjecture at this stage is fraught with uncertainty.

Reminiscence 2 Release Date

As there is no confirmation on a sequel, there is no official information on an official Reminiscence 2 release date. The original Reminiscence took two years to release from its inception in 2019, so it’s likely that any follow-up won’t be ready until at least 2023. The mixed response to the movie also makes prospects for a wider franchise seem extremely uncertain.

Reminiscence 2 Cast

Were a sequel to go ahead, it’s likely that the cast would be radically different for Reminiscence 2. At the end of the first film, the audience discovered that Ferguson’s character is dead and that Jackman’s Nick Bannister is imprisoned in his own memories inside a sort of cryogenic facility. While Jackman could theoretically reprise his role, it seems unlikely that Ferguson would return.

Reminiscence 2 Story Details

Although there are no concrete details about Reminiscence 2‘s story, there are plenty of interesting places for the sequel to potentially go. The film as a whole establishes a vivid future ravaged by global warming in which the haves control dry land while the have-nots are forced to live in drowned cities. This context could provide plenty of scope for an exciting follow-up. However, audiences will have to wait and see whether there is enough interest in the first film to warrant a sequel.
