The wait is almost over for Resident Alien to join the realm of comic books adapted into TV shows, with the Syfy series set to debut with Alan Tudyk in the starring role. Fortunately, our exclusive preview means fans and viewers won’t need to hunt down a copy of the Dark Horse series to see how much the show changes from the source material.

The premise of the show will be guaranteed to snag the curiosity of many, merging alien invasion with small-town medical intrigue. When the star of the story, an alien who crash lands on Earth, decides the best way to stay hidden is to steal the identity and life of an everyday human being, the story writes itself (in that it was originally written by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse). And while the world may soon discover the story in live action courtesy of the new Syfy series, Screen Rant is pleased to present the entirety of Resident Alien #0, the first issue of the original series courtesy of Dark Horse Comics.

The new comedy/drama casts fan-favorite actor (and no stranger to cosmic adventures) Alan Tudyk in the title role of ‘Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle,’ a physician living in a cabin in the woods to help keep away from prying eyes, and accompanied by Corey Reynolds and Elizabeth Bowen as local Sheriff Mike Thompson and Deputy Liv Baker. While the premise seems more prone to laughter than dark drama, fans have already seen how the show will be straying from the comics thanks to the first 7 minutes of Resident Alien‘s first episode being made available online ahead of the premiere.

Will ‘Harry’s disguise be invented, or stolen? Will the one child capable of seeing through his human disguise lead to laughter, or a sinister suspicion? Those answers will only arrive when the premiere airs on Syfy this Wednesday, January 27th. But until then, interested viewers can enjoy the full first issue of Dark Horse’s Resident Alien #0, embedded below for your reading pleasure.

It’s fair to expect that no matter what changes in adaptation have been made, the drama of the show, like the comic, will come when Harry’s duties shift from treating the sick… to investigating recent murders which he may or may not know about long before the local police.

Resident Alien premieres January 27 on SyFy.
