The campaign is obviously the big focus in the Resident Evil 3 remake, but the game packs in a brand new multiplayer mode called Resistance as well. Resident Evil has dabbled with multiplayer in the past, but Resistance is far different from past experiences.

Resistance is an asymmetrical multiplayer game with four players taking control of survivors, and one other player filling the shoes of an Umbrella mastermind. It’s similar to other horror multiplayer games out there like Dead By Daylight.

With a high profile series like Resident Evil, it seems like a no-brainer for Resistance to support crossplay, especially since Capcom has enabled it in past games like Street Fighter V. Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be any indication of Resistance getting crossplay anytime soon.

Resident Evil 3 Resistance Could Really Benefit From Crossplay

Crossplay is something that should be the standard these days, especially as more and more devs push to make it a reality. Online gaming only benefits from more players getting to play together. However, it’s especially true that Resident Evil Resistance could benefit more than most, and that’s because of the inherent nature of the game’s release. Resistance isn’t a standalone title, and it only comes packed-in with copies of Resident Evil 3. Most players are picking up the game for the remake, and not Resistance. There’s a portion of players that’ll never even try Resistance, and the fact that it can’t be downloaded separately hurts the player numbers even more.

Combining all systems would help establish a moderate player base, making it easier to play games. This might become more of a problem as time passes, and more players drop off after the initial fascination. Past that, Resistance is an experience that’s incredibly reliant on teamwork and communication, at least on the part of survivors. Crossplay would allow friends to play together no matter what system they’re on, thus encouraging better cooperation and gameplay. Crossplay has become more prevalent since big games like Fortnite, Rocket League, and Call of Duty have started supporting it. However, it’s still a long way from becoming the norm, even though it should be. Capcom has remained tight-lipped on any kind of crossplay coming to Resistance, even after the game has been out for nearly a week. It’s possible that the feature could be added down the road, but for now, it’s a disappointment that could hurt the experimental multiplayer.

Resident Evil 3 is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
