If the player decides to speak with the merchant (they should), the player will be able to increase their total inventory by spending 10,000 on the briefcase item. This is the first inventory buff available in the game. There is a second upgrade that will give more than double the amount of storage, but this one costs 30,000 to purchase.

Your best bet is to save most of your money as you progress through the story to have enough for this item.
