Two Resident Evil fans have taken cosplay to the next level by transforming their dogs into the terrifying zombie canines seen in both the games and movies. Resident Evil is home to a number of horrifying infected creatures, but perfecting the frightening look using real-life animals is no easy feat.

Resident Evil‘s zombie dogs, also known as Cerberus, are an iconic part of the franchise. Many who’ve played the original Resident Evil will remember the iconic jumpscare in which a dog jumps through a window of the Spencer Mansion, a moment recognized as one of the series’ most heart-stopping scares. While zombie dogs have evolved since the earlier Resident Evil games, their speed, power, and unpredictability still ensure they’re one of the most terrifying enemies players will encounter in Resident Evil – especially if fans are attacked by a pack.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Three-year-old Saint and one-year-old Vitani are two Dobermans who cosplayed as Resident Evil zombie dogs this Halloween thanks to a little help from their owners, known on Instagram as saint.and.vitani (via Dogspotting Society). Speaking to Screen Rant, Vitani’s owner Janeth explained that she and her sister, Saint’s owner, wanted to do something a little different with their dogs’ costumes this year, deciding on zombies a little more realistic than a simple costume. After looking at Resident Evil game images and the movies for inspiration, the duo created their own prosthetics to manufacture the looks for both Saint and Vitani, with the process taking over a week to complete. The family headed out to a local cemetery for the photoshoot itself, before editing the images to horror perfection. Janeth explained:

“The raw photos themselves were nice but they were too bright. I really wanted to give that creepy, apocalyptic vibe. So I darkened them up added some wounds to any empty space and whitened their eyes […] I would say 95% is real prosthetics and the other 5% is photo editing magic!”

Anyone looking to recreate the stunning Resident Evil cosplay with their own dogs will want to ensure that their pups are happy with their T-Virus transformation. As explained by Vitani’s owner, both dogs have experienced cosplay before, and were happy and comfortable with their spooky photoshoot. Pet owners are advised to take care when applying any sort of products to their dogs’ skin, and make sure that anything that’s being used on a dog has been medically assessed and deemed pet-safe so as to avoid any harm to the animal.

The terrifying Resident Evil zombie dogs’ cosplay gives a good idea of just how scary the enemies will be in the upcoming new movie, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Zombie dogs appear a few times in the most recent trailer for the film, though whether or not they’ll compare to Saint and Vitani remains to be seen. The fan-favorite enemy type may also make an appearance in the upcoming Resident Evil Village DLC, and will likely feature in the Re: Verse multiplayer, which will star a number of popular characters and enemy types from across the franchise.
