During its E3 showcase, Capcom has confirmed that Resident Evil RE: Verse will go live next month. This news follows on after the Resident Evil multiplayer spin-off was delayed earlier in the year. In RE: Verse, players will get the chance to step into the shoes of their favorite heroes and villains from the Resident Evil series. Iconic characters such as Jill Valentine and Leon Kennedy can be pitted against the likes of Jack Baker in an intense and bloody showdown. Unlike a typical online multiplayer shooter, however, players will return to the fray as a bioweapon on their demise. This is still a Resident Evil game, after all.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

RE: Verse was originally assumed to be releasing along with Resident Evil Village in May 2021. However, this ultimately did not happen. After its initial reveal in January 2021, many fans took it upon themselves to speak out against the poor graphics shown in the RE: Verse announcement trailer, with several commenting that the multiplayer looked “cheap” and an odd choice from the developers. Resident Evil has notoriously had trouble with its multiplayer games, and Capcom were likely hoping for a more positive reaction this time around. However, after this announcements, things did not get smoother for Capcom, as none of the beta tests for RE: Verse went well, either.

But now, after delaying RE: Verse and not specifying for how long, Capcom has now revealed that it will be launching in July 2021. Alas, which exact day in July, is still an unknown. During its E3 showcase, Resident Evil Village producer Tsuyoshi Kanda did also remind players that everyone who has purchased Village will immediately have free access to RE: Verse on its release, however.

This year marks the Resident Evil franchise’s 25th anniversary. While Resident Evil Village has been a huge hit for Capcom, already becoming one of the most successful games in the series, more bloody horror content is what the fans want. Thankfully, that should be what they eventually get. Along with the announcement about RE: Verse’s timely launch, Capcom also shared that work on a Resident Evil Village DLC is now in progress. It is unknown exactly what this future DLC will involve for now, although many are likely hoping to spend more time in Lady Dimitrescu’s grand castle.

While waiting for the release of RE: Verse and Village’s DLC, players will still be able to have a spin with Resident Evil 8’s mercenaries’ mode. While there is no exact date for the Resident Evil online multiplayer yet, it should not be too long before a more concrete timeframe is revealed, and fans can blast their way through Racoon City’s police department with abandon.
